Now I'll have to post all of my Bella Donna photos just to make up for it!

A hot mess. That is the only thing that comes to mind when I look at these pictures

And yet, Rock A Little is probably my favourite era, despite Stevie looking completely wasted on all of these pictures. There's something about it -- the excess, the eightiesness, the best haircut ever, her voice. It's like she'd totally succumb to the power ballad thing that was coming in around that time.

I like the way you worded that, Lucy.

We were commenting about this photo in another thread. You actually made her look good here, the way you cropped it. The actual photo makes her look just like the guy she's posing with. Yuk.

You AgeOldDesire, are really very nice. Please don't think I'm being insulting.

I'm not particularly eloquent, and I detect sarcasm.

No, no, no. Your words perfectly characterize my own view of that time.

In fact, I have often made "power-ballad" criticisms of the touring band that year, citing those aspects as shortcomings.

I think it can be both a criticism and a positive. Of course, the power-ballad thing was cliché and tacky, but it kept Stevie relevant. The reason Rock A Little did well in terms of sales was because it was fashionable. No matter how outdated it sounds now, it fit into the era in a massive way.

Or, in the immortal words of Tom Servo, "It's the 80's! Do a lot of coke and vote for Ronald Reagan!"
