Too bad the book never came out and thank you Sister Honey.
I always thought this was conducted inside the MTV studios, never would have guessed it was her house, or did she say it was her mother's house?
Right near the end of the interview I heard a plane flying by.

That's because her home was not far from Sky Harbor Airport.

Interestingly, her "Sister Honey" drawing looks a LOT like her Rhiannon one finished in October 1982 (after Robin's death).

Are you saying that it aired in 1984 because David said 1984? With all due respect to David, he is not the grand pooba of all things Stevie Nicks.

I still think it's 1985. Maybe not August, but sometime in 1985. In Part 4, Stevie is asked about working with Fleetwood Mac after this tour (Rock-A-Little). Stevie answers "she thinks they're going into the studio in July".
Now this is weird, as Tango In The Night started the gears rolling with Christine McVie's recording of 'Can't Help Falling In Love" for the "A Fine Mess Soundtrack", which released in 1986. She also mentions their are plans to start with Fleetwood Mac. Or was it July in 1986?

If it was 1984, it seems strange that an entire year passed before Rock-A-Little even released (which was November 18, 1985) and the lead single (Talk To Me) released October 28, 1985. It just seems the album was for the most part completed and the tour at least initially planned. If this interview as the Summer in 1985, there was more than enough time to plan everything and film the video before the end of October. Besides in 1984, wasn't Rock-A-Little called Mirror, Mirror? We already know the interview said your new album "Rock-A-Little" in Part 1.
Seriously, I'm not arguing with you just to argue or to show I'm right, you're wrong. I'm just not buying 1984, unless someone can prove it and not flap "memory" lip.

Maybe the very beginning of 1985? But I swear I have VHS of the Women in Rock stuff from 1984 -- I don't remember when in 1984. Maybe that was right at the end of the year.

I noticed that. It couldn't have been July 1986, because by August 28, 1986, at the big shindig at Long Beach Sports Arena, Lindsey told the audience that the work they had already done on the album constituted "the best thing we've ever done." Assuming Fleetwood Mac started recording at the time Stevie expected them to, I think she was talking about July 1985.

"A Fine Mess" was released in July 1986, so it's not extraordinary that Chris & Lindsey & Mick recorded their song at the very beginning of 1986 or even the end of 1985. That would mean that the band was about six months late getting started on Tango -- not hard to believe.

Stevie also mentioned wanting to go play clubs, but she did play some clubs in 1985, including the club up the coast with Les Dudek. Why didn't she mention that in the interview? She sang Talk to Me there, so that song was probably among the batch for Rock a Little Marque #1.

But that album was notorious for the holdup. Everyone kept expecting it & it kept getting pushed back. Jim Ladd told Stevie on the telephone in October 1985: "I didn't think I was going to live long enough to see this album," & Stevie replied, "You & me, too."

The "more than a year" makes sense if it's late 1984. The 2nd album was out the door by spring 1983, & Stevie could have started recording the third one either on the road or in November right after. From November 1983 to November or December 1984 (or January 1985) makes over a year. And that's only Stevie's loose way with words anyway. At first she says over a year, & then she says a year & a half.

I don't get the impression the album was for the most part completed from this interview. I get the impression that Rock a Little Marque #1 may have been in the can, but Rock a Little Marque #2 was still to come: new producers & a largely new batch of songs.

Maybe it was called "Mirror Mirror" when she first started talking about it, but she also said early on that she had written a song about how her Marina del Rey condo shook every time waves crashed on the beach, & how that was going to be the title song of her next album.

Not conclusive proof, either, but there's a photo going around (maybe Sanne can dig it up) of Stevie onstage with Tom Petty at the Heartbreakers' gig in Tempe AZ in July 1985, which really shows a difference in Stevie between what we see here & what we see onstage. She looks about twenty pounds heavier, for one, & she has a second or third chin. (I can vouch for the weight gain because I saw her in September 1985 in a concert.)

Thanks for the cool discussion, Macsters!

I don't have anything else to say - I think David backed up his 1984 claim quite well. He makes a good point - Stevie did look heavier in 85. The women in rock thing makes sense too - she talked about how it was a good year for music, one of the mentions was Lauper. She had a hit (I forgot which song) in 84.

I still wonder about the Mirror thing - I don't know if it was ever called Mirror Mirror - or if that was just a title a fan gave some of those RAL bootlegs.

Anyway this seems to be 1984, I think we can be almost sure. Just because the uploader said it was 85 doesn't mean it's right.

Yeah, I do not think it is August 1985, but certainly earlier in 1985, especially with the time frames she discusses. As for the weight gain, she is starting to look puffy in the face in this interview. Stevie is 5'1, so putting on weight is super easy for her. Damn, I gained 15 lbs in 1 month once and I'm 6'0! She discusses the Cyndi Lauper video 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun', since Stevie mentions Cyndi had her Father in the video. She also discusses Christine McVie's videos, especially 'Love Will Show Us How', both released mid 1984. But even in early or mid 1985, you would still be talking about those videos, especially since they were discussing women in rock as a year hadn't even passed.
If it was 1984, it was very late in the year. If 1985, early.
I found these air dates for Women in Rock:
MTV Women In Rock, interview segment 4/19/85
MTV Continuation of Women In Rock, 7/20, 8/2,8/16,8/23,9/13

Thanks for the air dates. My bet goes to late 84.

I still also think it's '84...cause of look/voice etc. She doesn't look like she did in '85-86 to me & her voice is also different too. Her hair also looks nice in this interview compared to '85-86....it was much more out of control if you ask me. (not Stevie's best look but thats IMO)...but to each his or her own. I know or recall that during a the OSOTM interview (promo) she mentions in that that the orginial title for RAL was to have been Mirror,Mirror but that she didn't like how the song turned out so than RAL became the lead song ...than it was changed to RAL. I know I have RAL interviews (one with Jim Ladd) but I'd have to relisten to it again for I don't recall the interview right now(what was said that is). I just know that Stevie confirmed that RAL pre title was MM during the '89 Mirror interview. Hope this isn't confusing? Don't mean to be...........Personally, I love the song MM so I'm not sure why she didn't like it.....its one of my favorites......

edit: and as David says, he saw the video itself in 1984.
Actually, in an interview she states that she had the RAL song before BD came out. Which what would make that maybe '80? It must be a RAL interview.....sorry I can't back my claim up......I don't recall....if anyone knows the interview please help out. Thanks.......(esp after hearing the RAL demo with Mick....her voice sounds very BD like in it.....)

In an interview shortly after the realease of Bella Donna when she was living in a condo near the ocean in Marina Del Rey she stated "I wrote a song about how this house shakes every time the waves crash" It doesn't take too much of a leap to presume that song was "Rock a Little"
