Default Out Of The Cradle Tour Stories

Lindsey's first solo tour! If you got to see him on this tour, please share here. I admit that I know very little about this tour and haven't gotten into it's bootlegs yet.

The first tour where he did the Big Love the way it was later made famous from The Dance.

Anyway, if you got to see him during this unique period please post here and tell us your memories.

I saw him and thought he was great, but I had nothing to compare it to. I didn't see Christine, so this was the first time I'd seen a solo Macster in such a small venue. I appreciated the intimacy. His personality really comes through now on the more recent tours. He was kind of pleasant and funny for OOTC and I loved it then, but it doesn't compare to now.

Ok, I went crazy for Big Love and Go Insane. It was an incredible way to open the show. I hate to say this, because I'd already loved Lindsey for 13 years by then, but I actually hadn't known he could play guitar like that before -- without a bass and drums and loud sound. I didn't know he was just that good with his fingers. I would think I'd be the last person to underestimate him, but I realized I had that tour.

I even loved Sardonic World. I thought the Chain sounded good and I really don't think it sounds good now. It didn't do the same thing for me for this tour or SYW the way it did when Christine was there. But when Lindsey did it with his back up singers for the OOTC tour, I liked it a lot.

But the real surprise for me was Doing What I Can, because it's one of the few songs I didn't especially like on the album. So, I wasn't expecting anything from it and it was . . . let's just say the sun is hot!!

Was not a fan of This Nearly Was Mine. Street of Dreams . . . actually, I felt like there was a whole small section of the show that dragged, until we got to Doing What I Can. And really, unless it's sultry like Trouble or NGBA or Slow Dancing [which he'd perform live if he cared about me], the slow tempo stuff is not going to rate at the top of my book.

Overall though, I felt about that tour the way I feel about UTS and GOS. I was a fan going in, but if I hadn't been, I would have fallen just as hard from that day forward. I honestly believe if I'd never seen him before 1992 or 2006 or 2008, if I'd seen him in concert for the first time on any of those tours, I'd be just as big of a fan, because with him, it's not really about the memory of what he's done. I mean, it is memory, but you don't need memory. What he is now is just -- to borrow from someone else -- "so very powerful."

I have never seen this song live but I can only imagine it being like fire. It's not one of my most favorite album tracks but is toward the top of the list of things I'd love to hear live.

If anyone reading this thread attended the infamous Phoenix/Roxy show, PLEASE post your recollection/perspective of the evening.

Even when he was promoting the GOS tour, I remember the interviewer asking him about that Phoenix show. He said he didn't even know why the people came, since they obviously didn't want to see him. If I had attended, I'd have been so upset. I only wish my level of upset would have been enough to relieve any hurt Lindsey felt.

I don't think he liked the OOTC tour much and, I suppose, that experience is one of the reasons why. As a result, I think he was genuinely surprised at how exhilarating the audience response during the UTS tour was. I think the contrast between that and his past experience is what buoyed him to turn around and get GOS out so fast.

He viewed the audience as disinterested and disrespectful and apparently became confrontational. I guess some folks in the audience were laughing, and he thought they were laughing at him, and he started screaming "Are you laughing at me?" "Quit fu##ing laughing at me!" Another fan reportedly yelled out "You're as good as Clapton," but Lindsey misheard it as the fan yelling for Clapton and started screaming at the audience again.

Sound like a case of paranoia to me....

I was there. I'll tell you about it another time. I left that show very angry at Lindsey. HE was the one who was RUDE.

I'm mortified for him.

The local reporter said that people were yelling at him "where's Stevie" and talking all the way through the set. From what I read, it was a horrible crowd and he did well not to just walk off, given the contractual ramifications it would have caused. But I wish he had.

Nobody was laughing. He never said anything like that to the audience. People were talking loudly and moving around ordering drinks during the set. He did ask some noisey people to shut the **** up. That was totally uncalled for. Very unprofessional on his part. It put a huge damper on the rest of the night.

The real problem was the place had a very bar type atmosphere more so than other entertainment venues he was probably use to playing. Half the crowd on any given night wasn't there to see the entertainment, no matter who performed. The rowdiness of the crowd was not directed at the energy of the show. LB can respond well to that type of activity. The activity in the place that night came off as a display of audience inattention. Anyone could tell it was a huge distraction for him.

The words "lounge act" were probaby ringing loudly in his ears the whole night. It didn't help matters when some drunks yelled out, "where's Stevie?" He didn't take that well. Fifteen years later the same thing happened in Phx at his UTS show. It put a huge uncontainable smile on his face. Not so during the OOTC tour.

I wasn't there, but I'd agree. I have a recording of the April 9, 1993 show along with the San Jose one and nowhere on my tape do I hear him yelling "are you laughing at me,". That sounds more like George Costanza than Lindsey.
