Default Save The Tiger Redux - About the Movie

I accidentally posted this in the Stevie forum earlier - sorry.

At ANY rate - - - -

Has anybody ever seen the movie "Save the Tiger" starring Jack Lemmon?
(He won a Best Actor Oscar for his performance in it.)

Unfortunately there's no clips from Youtube to show - There's not even one split-second of it;
only some footage of Lemmon accepting the Academy Award for his performance.
Anyway - - - I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by this movie; especially Lemmon's
performance in it. And the end scene was just STUNNING. They simply show
the main character - who had gotten himself in "a bit of trouble" - at the beach,
looking down at the waves - But in the background - in his mind - is all this
noise from a really intense battle in World War II - I don't believe there had been any indication
at all thru the whole movie that this guy was a war hero - you hear him yelling
more and more intensely, giving orders and so on and realize that in a way, that's
who he "really was." Puts a whole new twist, suddenly, on the whole movie, right
at the very end - you almost hate him and suddenly you love him. Besides throwing
a whole new twist on the main character, it makes this really powerful visual
statement of like, "What the f. are we DOING here!? "
i.m.o. the whole thing is VERY well done.

Anyway has anyone else seen this? Any thoughts on it?

Oh yes, I have seen, "Save The Tiger" and it one of the best. Excellent character study from the early 70's, ( again, the 70's rocked). It's one of the great Jack Lemmon performances too and he certainly deserved his best actor oscar. I think that great ending would be way too ambivalent for movie audiences today to understand,("I didn't get it. So what happened to him? Why didn't it have a happy ending? This movie sucked.") I saw an interview with Jack Lemmon and he talked aboput making this movie. He said he got so wrapped up in his character that he almost had a nervous breakdown in real life while making the movie. Remember the scene where he is giving the speech and he keeps seeing his buddies from the war sitting in the audience. Powerful stuff.

MUCH to my regret, I haven't been able to see it all the way through yet.
But I've seen enough to realize how good it is, including that scene
when he's hanging out with the young girl and playing a little "game"
where they're listing all these people from their lives - singers etc. -
and neither has heard of the other's heroes, and he gets very emotional.
VERY well done, i.m.o.
