Default DJ AM found dead in his apartment

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32602310...t-celebrities/

A law enforcement official says the celebrity disc jockey known as DJ AM has been found dead in a New York City apartment.

The official tells The Associated Press that 36-year-old Adam Goldstein was found in the Manhattan apartment Friday evening. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because family hadn’t been notified.

The death comes a year after Goldstein survived a plane crash that killed four other people in South Carolina.

Goldstein was a deejay for hire who performed at Hollywood’s most exclusive parties. He was also known for relationships with Nicole Richie and Mandy Moore.

Police sources tell WNBC that drugs may be involved in Goldstein’s death.

Barker's ex-wife, Shanna Moakler, posted her thoughts on Goldstein's death on her Twitter account: “My deepest condolences for DJ AM, you were a great artist and will be severely missed. My thoughts and Prayers to his family and friends," she wrote.

very, very sad news~ & to think he survived that plane crash last year w/ travis barker~

may he RIP~

I actually read the article before I posted it- I linked to it because it foreshadowed his fall. Its always sad when someone relapses, and apparently the plane crash and the breakup with his girlfriend caused him to snap.

RIP Mr. AM

Didn't We Almost Have it All
by Whitney

Remember when we held on in the rain
The night we almost lost it
Once again we can take the night into tomorrow
Living on feelings
Touching you I feel it all again

Didnt we almost have it all
When love was all we had worth giving?
The ride with you was worth the fall my friend
Loving you makes life worth living
Didnt we almost have it all
The night we held on till the morning
You know youll never love that way again
Didnt we almost have it all

The way you used to touch me felt so fine
We kept our hearts together down the line
A moment in the soul can last forever
Comfort and keep us
Help me bring the feeling back again

Didnt we have the beat of times
When love was young and new?
Couldnt we reach inside and find
The world of me and you?
Well never lose it again
Cause once you know what love is
You never let it end

Listening to Rich Ashcroft's New York in memory of AM:

Are you tuning in

And I wanted to go
Half my life
And I feel kind of strange
Like I never lived that life

And Im trying hard
To control my heart
And I always want to know
And I always want to go

New york are you tuning in
New york big city of dreams
New york oh what a city
New york are you tuning in

Theres no time to unpack yet
Lets get straight out on the street
And feel no inhibitions
This city was built for me

And my head is full of questions
When did I feel this good
In the arms of my lover
Burning through the night of new york

And its funny how time flies
In the city that never sleeps
Its getting after hours
And Im feeling the heat

Im almost dead and buried
The day nearly done
But I want to keep on going
Im going to kiss the sun in new york

And Im feeling kind of selfish
Ive been busy on your island
Just having my own fun

Its an english tradition
Find some money make some time
Get busy on your island
And slowly lose our minds in new york

I don't know who this cat is.
Did someone kill him? Was it a crime of passion, according to police?

I've read some reports that are saying the recent breakup with his girlfriend led him toward relapse and OD. I have a feeling it was the other way around. My guess is that he relapsed (as a result of the accident and probably use of pain meds?) and she left because of that.

This really illustrates how quickly one can lose it all, in spite of long term recovery. Nine years of sobriety and dead of an overdose. Addiction is so awful. My heart goes out to those who knew and loved him.

David, I had no idea who he was either.

He's probably most famous for dating Nicole Ritchie while she was a star on The Simple Life, co-starring Paris Hilton.
