I know this has probably been discussed in the past, but, i'm new and just wanted to know if anyone would impart their wisdom on the issue of Mirror Mirror...
Of What i've already absorbed i understand that at the end of the wild heart tour stevie went back to the studio for a new album with demo's such as running through the garden, thousand days, at the fair etc. Also it appears that the album entitled Mirror Mirror was due out oct-nov 1984 but then something happened, she had a fight with Jimmy or something??? And then we didn't get RAL until Nov '85 . What happpened....???...reason being is that of the demos i've heard it appears Stevie chucked out half of what would have been a totally awesome album in favour of safe bets.(songs written by others etc)

I'm not sure how or if Jimmy was involved with the scrapping of Mirror Mirror and the songs for it. I had always read that Stevie didn't like the demos and decided to write a bunch of new songs.
I thought she had mentioned Rock a Little once in 1983/4, so either that was after she began recording the new album or she was just referring to the song that would have been put out either way. |

I think Mirror Mirror would have been an even better album, and even more totally Stevie than RAL!!!!

RAL is definetly one of my favourite albums (its way too hard to choose, for me) But i can't help but imagine what it really would have sounded like as MM. I think it would have been better to have more Stevie and less other writers... ![]()

I also think the 'Mirror, Mirror' LP would've been a more consistant LP than RAL was/is....plus if Jimmy had stayed to finish it etc....& because of Stevie's drug issue's out of control......maybe if those things etc hadn't happend we could've /would've had MM instead of RAL.....I really liked how her early voice sounded .....RAL isn't one of my most favorite.....its closer to the bottom of my list I like more of the songs cut or the ext versions/vocals /demos etc better than the org lp.....I think Mirror is more consistant sounding than RAL.....but I like Mirror better than RAL anyway....not that there isn't some songs I don't like on it either but probably less than RAL....IMO anyway.....

I don't know what occured to delay the release of Rock A Little but i sure would like to know. I think that some kind of altercation must have occured between Stevie and Jimmy... Cause the mix of producers on the album makes it kind of like a patchwork quilt. But i still love it!!! ![]()

![]() I suppose she just spent all her time rocking out at restaurants and getting off her face...and not just on lobsters cake and champagne... Perhaps thats when she wrote "What has rock and roll ever done for you?" Well, Everything, Baby.... ![]()

She wrote that song in 1981 back when she was still in her Marina del Rey beachfront condo. The waves crashed against the beach & the condo shook. That's what inspired her.

Wow, that's a flashback to the 70's. I remember the green milkshakes. I wanted one SO bad when I was little, and then when I finally got it I remember being so grossed out by the color and wanting a regular one, LOL
