That said, what they did with Zod was better! Having Zod posess Lex Luthor, genius.

It's unfortunate that Superman doesnt have a better... gallery of rogues?

We're agreeing again! Yes, the villains in Superman aren't that great, apart from Lex Luthor and Zod. One of the resasons I like Zod so much is that he's a real match for him because they can really fight each other!

Batman Returns kicks ass, and not just cos of Michelle Pfeffer, although that is a puuurrrrfect bonus...sorry, couldn't resist!

I still remember seeing Batman Returns in the theater... I was just about to turn 13 years old. That was a good summer.

I'll bet it was! I was 10 when the film came out so too young for it at the cinema but I saw it a few years later when I was 13/14... Sooooo much hotter than Halle Berry is that piece of crap Catwoman movie.

Then there's Michelle in The Fabulous Baker Boys on that piano, possibly the sexiest thing in cinema...

Yup... My mom dropped us off (me, my brother and a friend of ours) at the theater and she went shopping while we saw the movie. I remember even going to McDonalds and trying to get all the Batman cups at once.

And oh... Michelle Pfeiffer, I think, is still sexy enough to pull off playing Catwoman even now.

Hell YEAH! She is so hot. She's n my list of top 5 celebrity women (like in Friends). Has been for years. She's just stunning. A great actress as well of course, which is a delightful bonus!

I kind of almost wonder what Batman Returns would've been like if they had only had Catwoman in it? A better film perhaps? I think that was the mistake of the movie...having 2 villains...and the mistake of subsequent films as well.

I think Batman Returns works well with the 2 villains, Catwoman and Penguin have a very twisted relationship. I like it. As for the other 2 films, Batman Forever would have been much better with just one villain (which one though? cos they were both great individually) and as for Batman and Robin, well, I think having 2 villains was one of far too many problems with that truly terrible film!

I'm also not keen on Scarecrow as a villain in Batman Begins, bit of a strange choice, although maybe they did it so that a higely well known villain wouldn't overshadow what they were trying to do with the franchise? The groundwork had tobe liad before they brought in The Joker.

Yeah I will agree with the Catwoman/Penguin relationship comment. They did manage to make it work. I just think there's just more room for deserved character development that way to keep the films to 1 baddie.

I think Batman Forever would've worked better with just The Riddler. I love Tommy lee Jones, but his "Two-Face" just didn't work. I think he's not to blame here in this instance though... I think also they made a conscious effort to not overshadow Batman like Nicholson did in the 1st film, but in introducing two villains they manage to still do that.

I think using the Scarecrow worked in Batman Begins, as well as Ra's Al Ghul. They were two of Batman's "less wacky" vilains and make it more believable... which works well with Nolan's vision of the "believable" Batman.

Saying that though, I still think Nolan's version is missing something. There's an absurdity thats missing... that comical element. Batman to a certain degree is about suspension of disbelief, not trying to make him "really real." OH well.

Oh that's right.
Now it's ironic to see how Keaton is finally the favorite, cause I remember when they released Batman, many people said Oh, but that Batman, nooo, or this movie should be called The Joker, not Batman.

The point was that Keaton wasn't bad, but Nicholson was great as the Joker. He was the best Joker, until Heath appeared.

Haha... well Nicholson was the ONLY Joker until Heath.

Unless you count Mark Hamill (also excellent).

I think Nicholson was a better Joker in the sense that he also got closer to the way I've pictured the character in my mind. I'm not saying Ledger wasn't great... he WAS... but his Joker was more sadistic than Nicholson's. Neither better, nor worse in my opinion...just different.

Have y'all seen the recent whinging about Ledger's Joker "exacerbating stereotypes about mental illness"?

Yeah, because every time I hear someone's schizophrenic, I immediately think that they spend their spare time prancing about in bad makeup and an outdated nurse outfit, blowing up hospitals.

“We need to make it clear to directors and producers that they can still break box office records without wrecking lives.”

Wasn't wrecking that IMAX camera enough for you, Nolan? Now you gotta wreck LIVES with your comic book movies, too? Jeez!

That was pretty much one of the wackiest/dumbest pieces I've read this week. It's a movie based on COMIC BOOKS. Hello.

I know, right? I guess the Telegraph was feeling especially wanky that day.

The boyfriend & I especially laughed at this part:

"The incorrect stereotype in both cases, to a lesser and greater extent, is that schizophrenics have multiple personality disorder, and that that second personality is always evil."

Like, GOD, why can't the other half of Two-Face's face be NICE, TOO?

...and who said Two-Face is evil? Maybe he's just got a misguided sense of justice.
