'm also under 30 but I can't even remember how I got into Bonnie, probably a recommendation from a fellow FM fan! The first album I ever bought was 'Give it Up' actually, and I've never looked back since.

Linda and Bonnie together is my idea of a dreamteam! I can never decide on favourite versions though, I always change my mind. I wish they'd done an album together like Linda and Emmylou's 'Western Wall'. I too am eagerly awaiting a new album and a tour (where she visits the UK ).
My goodness...someone else under 30 in the UK who likes Bonnie Raitt and Linda Ronstadt! I was feeling very alone..haha! Whereabouts in the UK are you?

The firsr release I actually bought was The Best of Bonnie Raitt[/I], that collection of her late 80s/90s stuff on Capitol that came out in 2003. I bought it because I'd heard and loved Thing Called Love. After that I got more and I now have Give It Up, Takin' My Time, Sweet Forgiveness, Nick of Time, Luck of the Draw, Longing in their Hearts and Road Tested. Along with that collection of her Warners material I mentioned. I've got loads of her other albums on spotify and listen to them a lot so I'm familiar with them. I just need to pick them up to fill in the gaps.

Have you heard the Carpenters version of Two Lives from Sweet Forgiveness? It's on Voice of the Heart (1983) and it's really good. I actually knew it before Bonnie's one.

What a strange post! I realise you didn't ask for my own Bonnie collection information!

p.s. I have the same birthday as Linda Ronstadt!

What era of Chicago? Can't we just blame Peter Cetera?

Peter Cetera gets off WAY too easy for all the **** he foisted upon listeners of popular music in the 80's.

So far as my life goes it's only here that everyone seems to love them: The Eagles. Sorry. When Henley comes in on Leather And Lace I have to turn it off. Great first verse, though.

Might I suggest trying out any of the Classic 7 from the Moodies for starters, and Stand Up, Aqualung or Living In The Past from Ian Anderson & Tull. Or just spin up one of their Greatest Hits collections - though that would hardly scratch the surface of what comprises either of these bands' extensive catalogs.

I suspect you have a hard time with anything Mac prior to say '75? And certainly anything that constitutes so called Progressive or Art Rock (aka Classical Rock)?

Well to each their own indeed ... even on a Mac board.

I'm with this question. There's such a huge difference between late 60's/early 70's Chicago and then the post-Terry Kath stuff. I won't lie, I like all eras of Chicago, but I can see why people loathe the power ballad stuff. I always thought the best songwriter in that band was Jimmy Pankow anyway.

You're right about the group's eras (late 60's/early 70's Chicago vs their later "lite" stuff) but the oft-attributed tailing-off of the band due to Terry Kath's untimely - and ultimately senseless - death is hardly accurate. Kath was in the band for quite a few years while it was choking and spiraling into a sugary mess. In some ways I view his death as getting out well past the nick of time (was he subconsciously putting himself out of obvious misery?). Ok that may be stated in less than stellar taste, but really... I might have done the same intentionally if I had to put up with one more Cetera power ballad.

I always felt it was Robert Lamm myself, with Pankow pulling up the rear as needed. Add a sprinkle of Cetera - and only a sprinkle - and you would have set things about right. But in the end not only was Kath's clout and contributions largely lost in the mix, Lamm and Pankow's songwriting and stylistic abilities started to tank too.

Beginnings, Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?, I'm A Man, Questions 67 And 68 ... all from 1969 alone. Where oh where did the originality and promise of the Chicago Transit Authority sound go?

oh, i don't hate them. i let it be known as often as possible.

i hate rush, and even though they aren't "classic rock", i'll throw in the fact that i hate abba, for good measure.

those are the only 2 bands that make me want to throw things at small children.

Lynard Skynard.... Sweet Home Alabama makes me want to shoot myself.

Close second: Creedence Clearwater Revival.... (mainly just John Fogherty... he seems like a real d-bag)

The band with that fat guy who plays the harmonica. Blues Traveler? When they come on the radio I nearly break my neck leaping to change the station. Cant abide them. But that's not classic rock.
