As for the original photo, as much as I love the Buckingham Nicks site it always amused me that the other band members were photoshopped out of all the photos. The only sad thing about that is that I now see them all over the internet like that. Personally I prefer seeing the original photos where the band hasn't been cropped out.
They also used this photo (but a different pose) on the original vinyl "Almanac" bootleg.

If you look back I just edited my post to include the full photo in all its glory! But here's the bootleg you're talking about and it is indeed the same photo that's on the back cover

Thank you for the info! Was this the famous Rolling Stone issue Annie Leibovitz cover? I assume she took these pics as well?

It was! This issue from 1977 to be precise:

It was the main photo in that issue, there's a bunch of other photos in that issue that we've all seen including Stevie standing in front of the car, John on his boat, Christine lying on the coach, Mick with his kids etc, all taken by Annie.

Wow. 1979 on that vinyl bootleg. I'm curious - have they always been around and were the bootlegs available at record stores? It's a bit surprising that so many of these demos/BN II songs have been "unofficially" available almost from the beginning of their FM tenure.

I've had that bootleg album, among others, for about twenty-something years. I recall that I bought it at a record store. Independent record stores were much more prevalent then, before the big box corporates took over. It was common to find bootleg albums among official releases. You could also get them mail order, if you found a good dealer in the classified ads.

These were incredible treasures to find/have, being it was at a time long before the internet and electronic files. There was far less accessible unreleased/live product; and what was out there were often low-fi, low-tech recordings on cassette tapes.

That was one of the earliest ones, if not the earliest. I & some friends got our copies in 1979 at Rockaway Records in Glendale. There were other vinyl boots that were that old, too, like "Albatross, But Not Around My Neck Please" (King Biscuit Stuff) & the Aladdin/Vegas 1977 concert, but this was the first batch of demos I remember ever encountering.

In 1981 on a radio interview (Stevie was on the phone) -- I think it was WMMS in Cleveland -- Stevie talked about this particular batch of songs, claiming that she thought she knew who took her tapes because this batch was all taken at once, & she thought she knew which house she was living in at the time. The DJs proceeded to play CATHOUSE BLUES on the air! Stevie was a little ... aghast ... at that, but covered her shock nicely by saying that it was rotten sound quality & that she'd prefer to have sent the radio station clean copies of these songs. She was definitely put out about the songs being out -- AND being put on the air. It was probably the first she knew of her demo tapes being in in such wide circulation.

As much as I loooooooove all my bootlegs, I always feel really guilty when I remember the means in which we all have access to them. I know she was really upset by it

She also told the DJ, "I probably would have sent you a copy if you had asked me for it."

So Stevie, I'm asking, "will you please send me a copy of your demo song about New Orleans?"

How about we make a huge collective plea for her to kindly give us high quality versions of all the unreleased recordings.... ever?

Look at Stevie's face! That's what matters.

That's one of my favorite photos of them, too.
i.m.o. the look on Stevie's is unmistakeable -
clear, pure adoration and happiness that they've succeeded.
