Sometimes you think that John is simply keeping time, but then you listen closely and there is true melody and skill in there.

It's one of the musical oddities that says that you dont really hear the bass line, but if wasnt there, you'd notice something was missing.

Absolutely true!! There are times you really do have to listen carefully to John's bass lines to make sure he's not just keeping time. He does play wonderfully,but at times a bit muted or subdued. An underrated bassist without doubt in one of the greatest rhythm sections in blues/rock history!
