Default Stevie on Michael Jackson, the Ultimate Showman

Haven't seen this posted yet, but if it has been, forgive me!

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/sto...timate_showman

"I remember before [we performed at Bill Clinton's 1993 inauguration], Michael sent somebody to find out if I had any foundation make-up he could borrow. I was using some light Chanel foundation at that time, and Michael sent back a note to say, thanks, but the foundation wasn't quite light enough for him. He meant that in show business, the stage is everywhere — it's when you leave the parking lot, when you go to the mall. It's about trying your best to be as perfect as possible. It's the reason Michael was like royalty. There's no other person like that, because the era of performers — the Frank Sinatras, the Elizabeth Taylors, the Sammy Davis Jr.s — is over. He was the last emperor."

Stevie is 100% correct with that last line. After Sammy Davis passed, we still had Michael Jackson. But now Michael is gone and there is nobody else. He was the last great entertainer, or as she put it, "the last emperor". Well said, Stevie, very well said.

...not to be too literal (and I KNOW what she meant) but... Elizabeth Taylor is still alive.

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

[Woo hoo! Now, I see that Debbie Rowe is a woman of impeccable wisdom!]

This is from VH1, a 2008 interview with her

http://www.vh1.com/news/articles/161..._michael.jhtml

MTV: Do you think he's an entertainer?

Rowe: I don't know that they allow them to entertain, because from what I've seen and when the camera's pulled back, you see the little X's on the floor. So they're only allowed to go from here to there, so I think they're really restricted. But the ones that have gone on, like Carrie Underwood, I think she is very talented. I don't know that she is, she's country music so I don't know how much of a performance it is. I guess we have to define what [is] performance versus entertaining, because there are so many different ... they're different things. I mean, you go to the Stones. Even if you hate the Rolling Stones, you have to go see them. If you hate the Grateful Dead, when Jerry Garcia was still alive, you had to go see them. Just for the experience of the people, cuz it's not just going to the concert and seeing them. I don't like concerts — I love Fleetwood Mac, but I would never go see them in concert.

She is talking about "legends". Michael does fall in the same catagory with legendary performers, and Frank and Sammy and all the great artists who have left us are legends. There wasn't anyone else like Michael. I have never seen anyone sweep me off my feet "mentally" like he did. It was classic and "timeless".

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree then!

Well, I think it's confusing because I didn't quote the whole interview. But when this sentence starts I believe she is talking about American Idol contestants first. Then, she says that she doesn't like to go to concerts but you have to see the Grateful Dead and the Rolling Stones anyway, even if you don't like concerts.

Then she says she loves Fleetwood Mac -- although she would never see them in concert.

Michele
