Default She loves herself some Stevie

Posted by daydreamer37 on July 3, 2009

I discovered Stevie Nicks when I was about five-years-old. One of my Uncles played an 8-track tape of Fleetwood Mac’s monster hit record Rumours. Dreams was a magical song that captured my heart immediately. I fell in love with her voice from the first note she sang. It was incredibly passionate, and sexy. Eventually I got my own copy of the album, and played it to death. My parents were both country music fans, so often anything pop, or rock like Fleetwood Mac came to my attention only through relatives and friends.

As I got older and Stevie embarked on a solo career between Fleetwood Mac albums I grew to admire her even more. Ironically I didn’t hear her Belladonna album until I was in my twenties. I had somehow missed out on it until then. The Wild Heart became a staple in my music library, and tape recorder in 1983. I wore out three copies that year alone. Gypsy, a song she recorded with Fleetwood Mac, had become my favourite song written by her by then. It still is today. If you read the lyrics its obvious why.

While the neighbourhood kids were listening to top 40 pop music I was saturated with Stevie Nicks records. I adored her music. I felt like she was singing poetry to me. She has contributed greatly to my need to be unique, and expressive. I love writing music myself. I hear the words, and the music. Unfortunately I can’t sing, or play an instrument. But the writing process itself is very rewarding. It feels good to write my feelings down about various issues. I have always been inspired by Stevie Nicks honest lyrics. I listen to her music more than any other ten artists combined.

I love her style, and her frank attitude. Like me she is blunt, battles addictions, is still single, and has no children. She loves to write music, and to sing. And I love listening to her. I was thrilled to finally see her live this Spring with Fleetwood Mac. She was amazing in concert as I had hoped she would be. For a daydreamer like me there is no better inspiration. She is a brilliant poet, and easily my favourite singer.

She is my John Lennon.

cheers,

Adrienne M. Leigh
