Well, we all know she was at the premier for Interview With a Vampire, and I absolutely wouldn't be surprised if she were and Anne Rice fan. I wouldn't think it'd be a stretch at all the she was referencing that. It was the first thing that came to my mind actually.

^^

I, too, think she is referencing Anne Rice's work. The vampire in Petty's song has nothing to do with NOLA. Anne Rice's loved and lived there and the city is famous for it and that image.

Have you been past the house lately? The new owner painted it BEIGE! BEIGE! I've never gotten into the vampire series, but the Witching Hour series is like the Bible to me... I've read them at least a dozen times, all 3000 pages .

I loved TWH - I read while living in NOLA in what was a rather glorious time of my life. I, too, read it often as it reminds me of my beloved NOLA and those wonderful times.

Are you living in NOLA?

And by extension Sting's "Moon Over Bourbon Street"

Sting's first solo album was on the tape deck a lot during the RAL sessions. See the Modern Producer interview with Iovine.

I really love TWH too... it captures all aspects of NOLA better than any book I've read set there (all classes, and parts of town OTHER than the Quarter). And of course anything witch or southern gothic related, I'm all over! I can imagine NOLA was quite glorious to live in! I just love it's very gritty, soulful nature... I currently live in the BEIGE antithesis of that: Charlotte, North Carolina .

But those vampires live in the San Fernando Valley.
