But really... when has relevance to "pop culture" had anything to do with great music? Some of the best music I've ever heard is still considered "underground" to many. And it's stupid labels and expecations like these that are just obscuring art with bussiness.

Amen to that. As a music fan when I'm asked what the best album of the decade is I immediately think the one that has meant the most to me, not the one with the biggest marketing campaign and sales figures.
But I guess music means different things to different people. For some it's a business and recognisability thing, for others it's much more personal than that.

Tusk is getting more and more recognition among younger, arty indie bands. Fleetwood Mac seem to be getting name dropped more and more recently by younger bands and their influence finally seems to be coming to the front. I think that makes them relevant.

I'm just catching up on this, and I see that relevance does not equal longevity for this discussion. The artists mentioned, while popular now, will not likely enjoy the longevity of Fleetwood Mac.

To each his own. My hate doesn't need quotations, though. I plainly despise him. He is completely overrated, and I have his albums so I can say that with some legitimate prior knowledge. I have throughly listened to Kanye and was once very thrilled with some of his output, in particular College Droupout and Graduation, but I would hardly classify him as someone who raises pop music standards...why? Because he sells a lot of albums and has a ton of popular ring-tones? He's had some pretty great tunes but his own attitude about himself and his music is far too outrageous for me to take him seriously. And call me conservative, but I was disgusted by his "Rolling Stone" cover. That has nothing to do with his music, but his hideous superior attitude does very little to win him over. He's a pretty good rapper. There's many better, and I'd place Andre 3000 on a higher mantel in a second. But you are totally entitled to your opinion and, really and truly, Kanye is an acceptable artist to argue for, more so than Britney or Lady Gaga anyway.
