"I guess one woman’s solid, unwavering bassist is another woman’s sad pile of antisocial ****. John McVie stepped up for 15 bars of “The Chain” and then went back to goal-sucking in a darkened nook by Mick Fleetwood’s drum kit for almost the entire night."

No kidding. Let's just say I sent her an equally nasty email. I thought she was supposed to be a music reviewer, not someone who throws insults around, trying to inflate their own little pathetic ego.

He might not be the most exciting bass player, or the most exciting anybody.
but he's a nice bloke from what little interviews I've seen, who's she calling antisocial...

Yeah. I'm not going to a FM show because I want to see him doing gymnastics - I'm there for the music, and frankly, he's a good musician.

You never hear John say two words usually, but he really is a good bass player. Not a big character (as opposed to Mick), but nonetheless. I think John and Mick together as a rhythm section are very underrated/undernoticed.

That must be the worst insult I've ever heard directed to anyone in the band.

It disgusts me when "reviewers" write like condescending jerks and mock, ridicule or insult just inflate their article. I guess this chick never paid much attention to FM before, or she would know the John McVie isn't the frontman of the band...he is the rythm section....it is not his job to be flamboyant or entertaining in the visual sense...so who really cares where he stands or what he does, as long as he plays great?

Just a snobby, elitist, know-it-all hipster biatch who fancies herself an (the?) authority on cool. Every city has one (we have plenty).
Don't get too riled up over this one, guys. Consider the source. |

But this reviewer doesn't have anything to say about his BASS PLAYING. You'd think his Chain spotlight was the only thing he performed all night. How'd he sound? You don't have to be front and center to be playing at the top of your game. What's she reviewing? His show biz personality? His charisma? She certainly isn't saying anything about what kind of bassist he is. Of course, I think many writers just want a lot of hits and feedback. So, they say provocative things just to trigger a response. Makes their columns look popular. Michele |

It really bums me out that John doesn't smile nor show any emotion towards all the fans. In one interview John was talking about how Stevie puts all her emotion into her songs and how it takes a lot out of her and a lot out of the band...................So I just forgive him for not acknowledging all the cheers for him as maybe he just doesn't want drama in his life.
But really, It would make a huge difference to see him show a lill appreciation towards all of us whom spent the money and missed work just to see the Mac...............Not that he'd care but I am going to see FM for 2nd time and if he doesn't produce a smile or an acknowledgment then I am gonna just cross my arms when Mick introduces him. Lets face it , if the band isn't having fun than neither is the audience. John IS a member of this band! Long story short----he is a great bass player but he is being rude. |

See, I don't view it as rudeness because he's pretty much always been that way. If he had been a uber-friendly, hyper person and suddenly turned into this seemingly uncommunicative, reclusive, silent little man then it would be a different story. As is, his personality has never bothered me. I like him. He seems like he may be a tough guy to warm up to but he's probably very sweet and funny once you know him well. I think he gives back by doing such an awesome job on stage and being quite less dramatic than some other people in his band that we know well. It's a good balance. He reminds me a little of John Entwistle. I always loved him...
