The Nightmare (backing vocals question)

Ok, so I broke out the Aquanet, threw on the slap bracelet, and decided to listen to Rock A Little at work this morning . I just got through listening to The Nightmare, and decided I had to ask a question that's been nagging on me for about a decade. Who is the man singing background on that song?? It sure as hell has always sounded like Prince to me. I've lost my liner notes over the years, and this is just driving me nuts! Seems like it was actually her producer Rick Nowels or something. Anybody know?

Ok , I broke out THE vinyl, and the liner notes for "The Nightmare" read : Background vocals: Rick Nowels, George Black, Maria Vidal, Sharon Celani & Lori Perry.
I have no idea who George Black is? does anyone else?

He also is credited on background vocals on the songs: ICW & Sister Honey, and has arranging credits and plays synth, bass & guitar throughout RAL. I'm guessing he must have been a collegue of Rick Nowels or Charles Judge since his work is credited alongside with those two.

The thing that I always wondered about as far as the writing on Rock A Little were some of the co writers. There was e. pressley and someone named la television? Are you kidding me? These are people Stevie had never worked with prior or since RAL. I've never heard her talk about them. Surely they are pseudonyms?

Amy LaTelevision - she was one of the co-writers of Some Become Strangers and she's a real person. She's a professional songwriter who wrote songs for Jennifer Warnes and Toni Childs among others and also did quite a bit of music for movies. Her rather bare, not-maintained MySpace (she name checks Stevie in the last blog entry): http://www.myspace.com/planetkauai
On a side note, Some Become Strangers was co-written by David Williams, who Stevie later wrote a song for which appeared on his 1987 album The Williams Brothers. I think it's called You Like Me.

I went to see the Williams Brothers open for Suzanne Vega at a concert in the '80s in L.A. because I thought Miss Stevie Nicks would appear. But the beeotch didn't, & I had to sit through a bunch of Suzanne Vega songs.

I did always think "The Nightmare" had a Prince-like vibe, and wondered if he had something to do with it...

And I LOVE the song "You Like Me" ... I wish Stevie would record it herself someday...

I loved 'Fancy Poultry', and 'Solitude Standing'.

Remember when a UK hip-hop DJ did a mix of her 'Tom's Diner' song and set it to t thumpy house beat? That was awesome.

I'd love to hear a Stevie mixed by a UK hip-hop DJ into a thumpy house beat. I think 'Jane' might be a good choice: picture the "There are angels here....angels..." part of that song, set to some heavy beats. Cool.
