Well, I could get tired of EO17 in the regular shows, but I thought it was especially outstanding on Soundstage. It seemed to be way above par and I was glad to get a record of it that way. Michele

Now, the Soundstage version of GDW is amazing. That I would want to hear regularly. |

We have enough versions of Edge of Seventeen that we can afford to be connoisseurs. I liked the original Edge on "Bella Donna" when I first heard it. Years later, I never thought there could ever be a better cd version of Edge than the one released on "Enchanted."
I did not like Storyteller's Edge. That about killed the show for me. The atmosphere was wrong--it was stilted. I was amazed at the Melbourne Version on "Crystal Visions." They did the impossible. Who could have imagined adding strings to that song?! There is the sound of almost "thunder" in that version. The other thing that I love is how each element of the band is given a sort of solo moment in the song. The organ playing is wonderful! If you dig piano playing, it's featured, and it's hot! If you like strings, they are there. If you love guitar, it's weaved throughout the piece, and it's striking. Then toss in Stevie's extra words: "She said somewhere deep in the middle of the night, my baby, I think about you," and "I know what it sounds like . . . it sounds like YOU." I think she brings it all home there. Soundstage is almost a tie with that version. It's really very close. But I'd give Crystal Visions/Live with the Melbourne Symphony the win . . . by a nose. ![]() ![]() |

It's intolerable because it's false sentiment. Didn't Lawrence say something like, "Sentiment is the working out on yourself of feelings you haven't really got" ? That's why the "mama" thing is obnoxious, as are "La Nicks" and "Madge." They're jokey, friendly, falsely intimate endearments. But then, I wouldn't call anyone I don't know and care about "dear" or "honey," either. I think it's rude.

don't let me help out here. I totally agree about the mamathing by the way. It'srespectless towards stevie and just an irritating gay fanthing. Yes I know, you are all proud of it. If I was in Stevie's boots, I'd puke on it.

![]() Calling someone you don't know by what is supposed to be a term of endearment--whatever that term is or whoever the person is--is condescending at best. Stevie's not a goddess, and I'm hardly a blind adorer of hers, but she is ostensibly the reason we're on her message board, yeah?

how did this become a gay thing? there are plenty of people who call her "mama" who aren't gay. and why is it such a big deal? seriously, it's a nickname. given to STEVIE. are y'all offended by people calling lindsey "liddy" or "liddy buck"? my guess is no.take the treacly, overprotective garbage elsewhere and grow some thicker skin. |

Calling her "Mama" just makes her sound old.
Let's pretend she's not. |

![]() For example, David, who most assuredly is not gay, has used La Nicks in the past. And, he referred to JohnnyStew as Le Stew ![]() Again, people need to lighten up. Moreover, people can have their opinion. But, please - I'll thank them not to put their notions on me. I'll use La Nicks all the fukc I want - I coined it years ago. I have repeatedly said I think it is a term of endearment and I use it that way as it has been used in the past in reference to some women. If they can't get that - then whatever. Personally, I think they sound condescending in this thread, but I could be wrong ![]() Last edited by strandinthewind; 04-28-2009 at 10:14 PM.. |
