As for FM songs performed on the show, let's not forget the hideous group rendition of "Don't Stop" during Hollywood Week.

I just got Adam's pre-Idol EP. I haven't had a chance to listen to it.

If anyone is curious, I can email the three tracks. It's not commercially available on iTunes or Amazon, etc.

ETA: Oh, Tears for Fears... jeeesh... over Edge of Seventeen?!?! Yet, it was the best of the night.

by a lot.

Adam Lambert essentially swiped Gary Jules cover "Mad World," which was a huge overseas hit for Jules. I don't know why he irritates me so much, but I'm Team Lambert if it's between him Danny The Golem.

Scott is definitely going home tomorrow.

I hated the midi sounding flutes in Lil's song.

Scott should definitely go home.

1. Adam
2 Allison (pink/red hair, right?)

I guess I did block that from my mind, thanks for the reminder.

My DVR cut off. Not that I'm all that upset about it. Glad to hear he didn't do Edge, I fear his screeching may have ruined it.

Tears For Fears had a tune out in '82? I remember them being more popular around '84/'85.

As soon as she started imitating the Tina strut, I knew it was all over. Karaoke/impersonation at this stage? No thanks.

Scott was awful. His high notes were literally painfil.

That's one of my favorite songs (shut up.)

Alison & Matt were my faves last night.

Kris was OK, but really? "All She Wants to do is Dance?" Really? Not Boys of Summer or even Dirty Laundry? Um, ok.

Hated Danny's performance AND the arrangement. Was that really Mickey Gilley's version? Didn't sounds at all country to my ears.

Default Gang of Bore

American Idol - Season 8
Top 8 (Songs from Birth Year)
by John Demetry

Last night proved that either Idol's catalogue of available songs is either dangerously limited or that the contestants know nothing about music history. Most likely, it evidenced that both are true. Adam Lambert rejected the treasures found in 1982 -- off the top of my head: Elvis Costello, X, Kate Bush, Roxy Music, Scritti Politti, Associates, Bruce Springsteen, English Beat, Prince, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Simple Minds, Chic, The Au Pairs, Madness, Dexys Midnight Runners, and on and on. Instead, Adam chose to do a Tears for Fears song ("Mad World") because there's a handy "contemporary" arrangement from the movie Donnie Darko -- a movie that nearly equals Idol's damage to our pop heritage.

If Adam Lambert had done Gang of Four's "I Love A Man In Uniform," he would have revolutionized Idol. Instead. . .

The Good

Adam Lambert -- "Mad World" -- . . .he merely stood out from the pack through superior vocal range and control, along with a flair for the dramatic (seemingly emitting a blinding blue aura). Really, for me, the competition is over. Adam is the Idol. And he deserves it. But will he win?

The Bad

Scott MacIntyre -- "The Search Is Over" -- Finally, Scott goes electric and brings out his "punk side." For the first time, I enjoyed his rousing performance as much as his post-performance banter. He's the wittiest contestant of the season. Bravo!

Kris Allen -- "All She Wants To Do Is Dance" -- Underrated: I liked the horns and the vocal.

Allison Irehata -- "I Can't Make You Love Me" -- Allison is going down in a blaze of boring.

The U-G-L-Y (You Ain't Got No Alibi)

Anoop Desai -- "True Colors" -- Brilliant song choice, mediocre vocal, bad r&b arrangement, sleep-inducing performance.

Matt Giraud -- "Part Time Lover" -- Wretched over-performance, bad dancing.

Lil Rounds -- "What's Love Got To Do With It" -- Why is she hobbling around like a victim of domestic abuse? She can't sing. And I hate this song.

What's Grosser Than Gross?

Danny Gokey -- "Stand By Me" -- It goes through three levels of awful -- each one more repulsive than the previous. He is the worst contestant in the history of the show. I think he'll beat Adam.

Bottom Three I'd like to see: Scott, Lil, Matt
Bottom Three that's going to be: Scott, Matt, Kris

There might be a shocker with Kris as the bottom vote getter.

and Adam is not going to win. Idol is looking for a commerical, radio-friendly pop star. Adam is not. He is good entertainment for the show, but will fail in the real world as a recording artist. Hello, Broadway!

bottom 3 I'd like to see: Danny, Matt & Lil

Bottom 3 Prediction: Anoop, Kris, Scott
Elimination: KRIS

I hope tonight doesn't end my perfect streak. I like Kris, but it's more important to me to win.

I have a perfect record for calling the eliminations each week at work. Not that I'm going to win money or antyhing.

Next week is "cinema week" with...Quinton Tarrantino.

I had guessed all 8 rounds accurately, but not this week. Even though Scott was the obvious one. What was I thinking!?

im soooo glad scott got the boot.

[i dont feel like using caps. ]

he isn't horrible, and honestly it was between him and lil for me this week. but they need to keep the two chicks around until at least top 6.

I was like (o.o) to see Anoop in the bottom this week. He did rather well.

adam didn't do bad, but honestly i don't see the hype about him. :/

danny is blech. please send him home next, please?

allison was ok.

kris picked a bad song for him, with a worse arrangement. but i like kris, so i'd let it slide.

matt who? still
however his part time lover rendition was good.

scott didn't do bad, but of the contestants left, and we all know its rigged for danny to win, id rather him go over anoop and kris [my two faves this season]. and allison has more talent, hence why she hasn't gone home yet.
