I don't think Stevie would have ANY problem moving between 250,00-500,000 units.
What I find interesting is, after all the talk of a standards album, and a Country album, and a guy's covers album......she's back to original material....which is fine by me! Now, if it could just be produced by Rick Rubin! |

If they were begging her to release something like TISL, she would have done it by now. The work she does is presented to the label and they make the decision about whether or not to release it, so they hold the power. I'm sure they steered her in the direction of doing the '08 summer tour instead of going into the studio after the CV album/tour was done in August 2007. Although, i'm glad things worked out as they did, because then we wouldn't be getting the Soundstage CD/DVD tomorrow!

Stevie doesn't contractually owe WBR anything.

As of May 08, it sold 215,000 copies, and 34,000 in its first week.

2. Maybe she figured "If Lindsey can make records that don't sell millions, so can I!" Seriously, though, it seems to me that LB's last 2 solo CDs were mainly creative outlets. Maybe she realizes that's not a bad thing. ![]() 3. Always the optimist, aren't you? ![]() Teehee. |

Ehh, it's ok for a compilation album. I expect the Soundstage CD to eventually go gold, and i'm sure a future album that Stevie releases will definitely go gold.

Yaaaaaaay! So exciting! I'm glad that the Mac/Stevie are back in the new and stuff. And that they're thinking about releasing new materials.

And that was back when the music industry was still kinda healthy. I think we can take any numbers from 8 years ago and pretty much halve them for today. So I think it would be considered a "hit" if she sells 350K or so.There's no way in heck that Soundstage is going to go gold. The biggest thing working against her is the fact that a version of this has been broadcast and DVR'd/taped/youtubed/torrented, etc. ad nauseum since it was broadcast last July. Secondly, many, many fans will assume that this is simply the audio track pulled from the DVD, so they will just buy the DVD only. Thirdly, there are only a couple of bonafide "hits" on the CD; the rest are album cuts or minor radio hits. Fourthly, since she is on tour with FM (and will likely not do a solo tour behind it), she is unable to do extensive promotion. Fifthly... admittedly there is nothing on this set that is particularly earth-shattering. Sure, some of the arrangements have been tweaked, and the addition of strings to "Landslide" is pretty, but overall it's a very conservative set- nothing like Eric Clapton's re-worked "Layla" which was an improbable smash hit for him back in the day. I do hope I'm wrong, but I just feel like so many casual and diehard fans will sit this one out. Last edited by HejiraNYC; 03-30-2009 at 04:08 PM.. |

this is a great interview, and full of very exciting tidbits...I won't hold my breath waiting for the new cd or (most especially) the alt type tour, but still exciting to hear her talk about the possibility of them!
And yes, I, too, am glad to hear her acknowledge the gays in her fan base! |

How nice to hear her talking about something other than the recording of Rumours!
As far as a new record goes, I'll believe it when I see it but at least she's considering it (maybe)! It's a start, folks.

This was a great interview. Finally, we got an interviewer who really has a knowledgable fan perspective of her and her career. It's very encouraging to hear, at the very least, her talk about doing an album and doing something different with her stage show.
I'm really glad to see that she seems to be reinspired, and wants to be creative for it's own sake -- and not be hindered by sales figures and record executives. She's very beholdened to to very antiquated, stale record company dynamic; but granted, that's all she's ever known. A lot of today's newer artists have a very different perspective of the business, and as such, have much more control of their music and more free-will of what they do. Stevie could do so much more if she signed with an innovative independant company. I'm sure they would love to have her and be more enthusiastic and supportive about her ideas, projects and endeavours. From the interview, I gather that her current "representatives" are doing everything they can to keep her resting on on her laurels and milk the hell out of her past, than have her go forward with anything artistic that doesn't suit their profit margins.
