R&R is a man's world as Stevie has lamented many times.
Often times it wasn't bashing... just more praise of the other two...

She was already established, not the "front person" and welcomed the role she played behind her keyboard.

Again Stevie was an easy target in many ways.

What were they going to do bash both women in the group. One was enough. Now someone is going to say what about when C was the only female in the band, well that was a different time, they were not covered by the press a much as they were when Stevie joined.

Also, wolfontherun, have you ever stopped to think if maybe just maybe Stevie may have earned some of those poor reviews? And had nothing to do with her being 'an easy target'. I mean at times she was a complete mess. I'm not being biaised, perhaps you are.

I noticed that too actually. Bit of an eye opener.
I know we can all say Stevies got her back up singers cos she cant reach the Rhiannon or Gypsy high register, but as you said, at least shes singing the verses in the same key, which is impressive.

Lindsey's voice on the other hand is too raspy, too crackily and well, too aged to maintain this shouting he's doing. From the get-go of Monday Morning onwards he's totally straining it! Quality over quantity in my opinion. While his guitar playing is still brilliant, his voice is nowhere near the quality it was for SYW tour, I think.

Yes, he can ham it up on occasion (I loved the Tusk dance but whatever...), but these days he isn't quite. And he didn't on his solo tour. He's just an exceptional performer and has a great amount of stage presence and his playing abilities just soar. As for his voice, it's not what it was but I love it. I like Stevie's as well, but of the two I'd probably prefer Lindsey's because hers is a lot more flat and monotone to me. I am certainly not a technical expert in terms of what "key" someone is in or whether they are in this range or that...I just know what sounds good to me. No, Lindsey's voice is not what it was, but I believe it has preserved well. And I think Stevie sounds better now than she did on the SYW tour, which I honestly didn't think was a great moment for her.

I'm enjoying BOTH of them right now. Why must it always be this-one-or-that-one? I mean, yeah, Lindsey's my boy but I will totally give Stevie her deserved props. So many people come to FM shows to see her, she is a star, beautiful, and very talented. I like so many of her songs, love everything she did on Tusk and I think she's on a bit of an upswing lately so that's wonderful. I hope it continues and they really do embark on another album, with an outside producer. I can't write them off, and they deserve to have one more great album (though I did love SYW).
I agree. I enjoy Lindsey just as much, if not more, than Stevie. I love them both and prefer FM to either of them solo, but LB's recent ventures blew my socks off. I saw him many more times than I did Stevie in the last three years. He is just on fire and seems so content with life. Stevie can still enthrall me.....she still has her moments, but overall, I am really enjoying LB. For me, I think they both can bring out the best in each other lyrically and vocally. Neither needs to outshine the other...they are both brilliant in their own right. I do think their voices were meant to sing together!

Eh, or leave go when its being wrenched out of their grip and they're tired of fighting for it.

Oh, they like to bash women, but a one-woman bash per band is their quota? Well, you've got almost all the excuses covered, but you forgot the fact that Stevie plays tambo. I think critics are notorious for their hatred of the tambourine.

Singing is not about "key". It's about passion. Whatever you think about LB's voice, you can't say he's singing flat and uninspired on any song. THAT'S the whole diffference. Lindsey has NEVER been the great exceptional singer. And he strained his voice on every live tour ever done. It's always been the way he sings. Remember the sixteen screams from Not That funny on Fleetwood Mac Live? At thirty that sounds different then at sixty.

Well, who can forget Lindsey's frenzy on the Mirage video for The Chain. He's "running, running, running in the shadows" and Stevie is looking at him like he just might be insane.

He's always been like that. I always liked this review of the Us Festival which commented upon his howling tendencies:

Quote:
And Nicks, for all her self-indulgence, really is a charming live performer who reaches out to her audience with an extraordinary fierceness, as if she desperately needs reassurance that her music is loved.

By contrast, Buckingham is a witty dandy - his costume in the stifling heat of the US Festival was a tweed suit, vest and Panama hat - who phrases everything in an ironically distanced yowl. As a great admirer of Buckingham's eccentric solo album "Law and Order" (1981), I was prepared for a certain amount of manneristic excess, but Buckingham outdid himself last Sunday, plucking his guitar in a furious, spastic blur and yelling out delicate lyrics in a werewolf's croon.

Nobody would agree more than me than theres more to singing than singing on point. And I'm all for passion aswell. I just don't think he can maintain this decibel for the whole tour. I really don't. Those vocal chords aint gettin any younger and while I'm not saying he shouldn't give it his all for every performance (which he does, and which I always admire about him), we're only a week in and as somebody said previously said, already, "its not too pleasing on the ear".

Hmm, maybe Stevie doesn't want to compete with the howling actually.

Oh, he can keep it up the whole tour. He did that for the SYW tour. He can scream endlessly. As far as what it's doing to his singing voice . . . Yes, he's lost a lot of that and I don't mind it, unless I have to listen to him croaking through Shut Us Down on Elizabethtown: The Sequel. That would be very painful. Other than that, I say let the larynx rip.
