Default HALL OF FAME, YES OR NO? please read

Hello

I am new here, and since there appears to be many music savy people, I want to post some acts, and please tell me if you think they are Hall Of Fame worthy or not.
If they are already in there, then please say if you think its valid or not:

Huey Lewis And The News - I say YES, I mean, they might not be the best band ever , but they had a ton of hits

Richard Marx - tough one, id say no,even though Ilove his music

Rick Springfield - Id Say no , even though his last album was good, he hasnt been relevant in many years

Hall and Oates - for sure YEs, very under rated

Journey - Id say NO, maybe because I love Steve Perry so much

Styx - NO WAY, love dennis, but they havent even sniffed the charts in decades

David

No. This guy was vapid & inconsequential even when he was popular.

Rick Springfield
No. Nobody ever confused him for a serious rock musician or writer, even when he stole a Grammy one year from Springsteen (I can remember Jim Ladd guffawing over that one on the radio when it happened).

Hall and Oates
No, although they seem to have earned a reputation as carriers of the Philadelphia soul torch. Even their big radio-friendly hits seem pretty bland in retrospect.

Quote:
Journey
No. Journey had some good musicians in it (like the guy who played with Santana), but it was never more than an arena-rock band with hamfisted anthems & noisy, pretentious albums.

Quote:
Styx
No. See Journey.

Why do you bring up current popularity as a criterion? That's illogical. A lot of great acts (like Marvin Gaye & the Sex Pistols) were justifiably inducted into the Hall despite not having been in the news or on the charts at the time. The Hall is meant to honor rock acts from the beginning of rock & roll to current times.

David, David, David - Clearly Journey deserves something. After all, they gifted us with "streetlight people, livin' just to find emotion."

Also:

You're welcome.

Considering the dearth of big-name acts that came of age in the 80's, I'm going to say three of these (Huey Lewis, Hall & Oates, and Journey) will end up getting in anyways.

Huey Lewis And The News - I say YES, I mean, they might not be the best band ever , but they had a ton of hits
I agree.

Richard Marx - tough one, id say no,even though Ilove his music
I agree, his achievements are not enoguh

Rick Springfield - Id Say no , even though his last album was good, he hasnt been relevant in many years
I'd agree, but I think he deserve it. He was a pop icon long ago.

Hall and Oates - for sure YEs, very under rated
Under rated? I don't think so, not in Peru

Journey - Id say NO, maybe because I love Steve Perry so much
I'd say YES.

Styx - NO WAY, love dennis, but they havent even sniffed the charts in decades
Yes they haven't but So what? Remember Paradise Theatre, Cornerstone, Pieces of Eight, among others were great albums!! In the 70s and early 80s they kick it!! They had several hits, maybe as much as Huey&News, probably you were too young?

None of these (whether you think they are good or bad) will ever make it into the Hall for one simple reason- Jan Wenner doesn't like 'em. Sure, you could debate about the merit of their work, their chart history and their influence on popular culture, but you can already see that the list of Hall inductees is full of two-hit wonders, girl groups, boy groups, teen idols, and others who have otherwise been forgotten through the passage of time. It has nothing to do with merit! And the ongoing exclusion of truly influential legends like Stevie Nicks, Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt, etc. is all the proof you need.

A big "oh hell, no" to all of them. I think one of the big criteria for induction is "how influential was the artist?"...none of the above were influential in any area whatsoever. Just because an artist sells a billion albums doesn't make them "influential".

But, now, where's Genesis, The Moody Blues, Emerson/Lake/Palmer, Yes and King Crimson? Now there's a whole GENRE of worthy (and INFLUENTIAL) rock bands that are painfully ignored by the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

And, the way I see it...they just should NOT induct ANYBODY until they rectify the faux pas of not inducting Bob Welch as a member of Fleetwood Mac.

Hall & Oats are the only ones on that list that I could see getting in.

I agree with Chili about the prog rockers, and would throw Rush in that mix.

I'd also add the Guess Who/BTO/Randy Bachman to that list. Lots of great pop genius.

As for people who got passed over by the Hall, I'd throw Bob, Billy, and Rick in for the Mac, and Gram Parsons, Gene Parsons, and Clarence White in for the Byrds. (Oddly, the country Byrds seem to be more relevant these days.)

Moody Blues are probably the most underrated rock band that ever existed. They are an absolute masterpiece yet, as you pointed out, are continuously forgotten about. Yet if you asked the majority of critics why Knights In White Satin wasnt in their "top ten" rock and roll anthems of all time, they'd answer with.."oh yeah! God how did I forget that?", I guarantee you that.

Hall & Oates maybe. But the others no.

The HOF has become meaningless, too many in there
already that don't belong.

The only one I liked was "Rich Girl," & I was about 12 years old.

I hate Rush & the prog rockers. I've always hated that sort of sonic pomposity in rock music. Give me Sons of the Pioneers over that bloatedness every time.

Gram Parsons definitely. The "Grievous Angel" album is an enormously influential classic (obviously not with today's rappers but with normal people). Even Tom Petty once said that he was trying to capture a "feel" that Parsons & Emylou had with the song "Insider."

Why? What's so funny?

Notice the singer is playing a Yamaha CP80, the exact same instrument Christine played at the UCLA Rock 'n' Run performances in 1983!!
