I like what Stevie says here. It emphasizes to me how the recording sessions probably grew fraught with anger or boredom. Lindsey & John may like a dab of Stevie Nicks here & there, but not all the time (musically speaking).

I like this view, too, & I think it makes a lot of sense. It also -- probably unbeknown to Nicks -- echoes Lindsey's reason for jumping ship back during tour time in 1987. I think a lot of fans probably always thought that his reason was hooey, but I never did. I appreciated the seriousness & the truth of it. I bet he was so anxiety-ridden over the prospect of touring with FM that year -- after having suffered throughout the sessions -- that he was literally throwing up or coughing up blood from the stress. There was no way he could have agreed to do that tour at that time.

I'm getting the feeling you all think I hate Lindsey, or something, which is far from the case. I just don't like the way either Stevie or Lindsey come off sounding in these interviews. I'm not buying the whole we still need to resolve our feelings crap. At this point I wish they'd stop giving interviews. All a matter of interpretation, I suppose.

Oh Stevie, don't you realize how foolish and out of touch with reality you seem when you make statements like this? Not to mention the insensitivity of comparing the dangers of war and the death of thousands of soldiers to performing on stages around the world and earning millions in the process. Shame on you, woman.

Maybe they misquoted her and omitted her next sentence...."That is, if being deployed to Iraq included 5-star accommodations, personal assistants, nannies, limousines and private jets."

Regarding her army statement. She obviously means that it is a very regimented and disciplened environment. She is using the army to emphasize her point.

Come on people lighten up on her, she is not condoning the slughtering of kittens or anything.

WE all know she's compared FM to being in the army many times...and I get that. And we all know how she has supported the troops. But the average person on the street knows none of those things. So when Stevie makes statements like this, it only reaffirms her airy-fairy, spacey image that most of the general public already have about her.

Yes, that was once the (lame) excuse that her defenders used to rationalize her insensitivity. However, this time, she went out of her way to elaborate on her generalization to show exactly what she has meant by it all these years.

You see, its not just the regimented/disciplined environment that comes by being a professional in general... but also the frightening, uncertain scenario of going to faraway lands (touring), putting yourself in a potential combat scenario (Lindsey the meanie) for who knows how long (read the damned contract next time).

Forget "costs a gazillion times more", "we wish we could play for free", "why bother recording"- those lines, more than anything, just present her as the relatively clueless person we can all pretty much concede her to be. She lives in a different world of celebrity and doesn't have a real idea on what the world is like around her, and who her fans truly are. As fans, we accept this as a necessary flaw, or even something that might even make her more charming (as I've seen suggested on these boards in this past week).

The army/Iraq analogy, however, reeks of pure idiocy and insensitivity. Its completely indefensible, and not something that can be excused (before anyone brings up the iPod's/Walter Reed/etc- a gesture can never override an overarching belief) Unless she was misquoted the dozens of times she's used this general analogy, this is how she believes.

Stevie's words here reminded me so much of what she said about him when TISL came out. I can see why Lindsey believes in the power of cycles!
