So, there's 5. (and, those couple of dates when the USC Marching Band showed up you can add about 40 or 50 more).

For the SYW tour, they added Carlos Rios (barf!) on guitar, Taku Hirano took Lenny's spot on percussion, Jana Anderson replaced Mindy Stein when she took maternity leave mid-tour...and there was yet another percussionist whose name I've forgotten.

I, apparently, don't hear what you hear on the studio version. That's (to my ears, anyway) DEFINITELY piano playing the opening riffs...unless I'm wearing headphones, I can't hear any guitar at all on that opening part.

I hear you about the studio version. I wonder why they don't try to do it live with acoustic guitars and no electric guitar, and with Mick on brushes or whatever he used on the studio track. (Like a little bit like "Gypsy" at the AHI show and "Never Going Back Again" on the SYW tour.) I wonder if they've tried that.
here is the Tusk Tour version of "Sara" where you can distinctly see Christine playing the piano intro, and Lindsey plays electric guitars throughout the song- no acoustic guitar at all.

I think it would be practically impossible to recreate the "Sara" wall of sound live- there's a lot of studio effects and overdubs on that. Although it seems that on Soundstage Sessions it seems that Sharon, Lori and Jana tried to recreate the "ooh" harmonies that kind of wash in and out of the studio version very subtly.

The other percussionist was a guy named Steve Arinkoff. I am not too sure on how he spells his last name but his first name is Steve.

Well, they did go in the studio and fix Soundstage up...

I wasn't talking about Lindsey playing the acoustic, I know he was playing the electric.... but wasn't the acoustic guitar played by Ray Lindsay who usually stood in the back? Somebody is definitiely palying an acoustic guitar on that St Louis show. Am I really the only one who hears this guitar on the St Louis boot??

Chili D, I hear the piano, but I really do hear the guitar on the studio version, I am not trying to be difficult! I even used software to amplify the intro to make sure. Also, for some reason I hear it more on the version that's on "The Chain" boxset than on any version that has come out since.

But I guess I need to be willing to admit that maybe I'm hearing things!

In any case, that keyboard that they use these days for the intro is really hard on my ears.

I just really haven't enjoyed a live version of Sara since the Mirage tour, with the "Bella Donna/Wild Heart/(some of the) Rock A Little tour" version being the absolute worst for me.

I thought Ray Lindsay only played on "Go Your Own Way." Perhaps you are thinking about the "Cleaning Lady" version of "Sara" that appears on the expanded Tusk reissue? That one definitely starts out with strumming acoustic guitars.

Agreed - the recent live keyboard sound is ass. I am actually rather fond of the keyboard sound from the WWD HBO special- where the piano intro is doubled by a synth.

I haven't really enjoyed one since the Tusk tour, TBQH. And even those - I dunno. I much prefer the album versions. I don't think it translates well live. It always seems that they are rushing through it. The recent Soundstage version wasn't bad musically but I hated Stevie's vocal - too loud, too shouty, not soft & sexy. Meh.

Not to go off-topic, but I don't usually like Gypsy live either. So much better on the album. With the notable exception of the acoustic AHI version.

I have to agree. I love hearing Sara live but it does sound rushed, doesn't it? Especially when they did it on the SYW tour and Stevie's vocals are WAY too loud. The recorded version has a subtle, underlying power that is completely stripped from the stage version.

Exactly. Which is why, even though I want to hear it badly, I am nervous about Storms.

Well, I had my misgivings about "Beautiful Child" when that was first announced, but lo and behold, she managed to pull it off despite belting out the song at full throttle. I have a feeling that "Storms" is going to be given the full band arrangement, which should be more forgiving of Stevie's belting.

I think being by herself versus being with Fleetwood Mac, Stevie sings differently. She tones it down a bit when she's with them because she's got the other super egos with her lol.

I am so excited for this tour. Sara was great the last tour just because it was such a gem from so long ago, but anything they do I will love.

I agree about Gypsy, I never liked it live, not even for Mirage. It just loses something. But I'll be happy with any song they do!!! Can't wait!!!

that's Lindsey on the Turner during the piano intro. You can hear him hit a few notes. It may sound like an acoustic but it's the Turner. The other thing is that the upright piano Chris used is tampered with so that several of the strings thung more loosely against the iron frame or the soundboard, which can sound like guitar strings against a fretboard.

You mean solo or Mac? I played the SARA YouTube from Soundstage & thought it sounded rinky-tinky.

After that, things started going to hell.
