I realise that what I'm about to say will make me less popluar than I already am but has anyone noticed how prominent Sheryl Crow has been in the public eye of late? Her profile has been noticeably high, culminating in her appearance at the Obama concert last week. I know some members of this forum have referred to her as being a media whore in the past but she is currently being recognised for her muscial talents as opposed to her celebrity.
I find all of this quite amusing considering the Mac have seemingly ditched her in favour of retaining the bigger, brighter lights for themselves. I don't imagine they're any more prepared to share the stage with her than they are the loot that will undoubtedly come their way this year. They have obviously underestimated her musical pedigree and the respect she commands within industry circles. Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Police and Eric Clapton are just a few to sing her praises of late and there has been no shortage of important television appearances recently - lead spots on Live At Abbey Road, Later With Jools Holland and the Hard Rock Festival have stood her in good stead. If only Stevie or The Mac could land such a spot at this stage of their career - who knows, it might even give them the impetus to actually produce something new? I am one of the few who happen to appeciate Sheryl's talents and believe that she would have made an excellent contribution to both a new studio album with the Mac and the upcoming tour. She works extremely well with Stevie and demonstrated an insightful, sympathetic approach to the material she produced on Trouble In Shangri-La. Who knows what she could have done within the confines of The Mac? With Christine gone, an in-house keyboardist is sorely missed and she could have easily filled this void (I'm not comparing Sheryl and Christine here, just referring to the lack of piano on the "Say You Will" album). I also think she and Lindsey could have worked well together, if only he would surrender his ego in exchange for a meaningful collaboration and possibly unbounded creativity. What a shame... |

Fleetwood Mac let Sheryl Crow go? In order to let something go, one had to have had it in the first place. Real world example- you interview with a company, and it seems to go well (mutual interest in each other, former colleagues, etc.) You end up not getting the job. You weren't let go, or laid off.
The typical Fleetwood Mac concert goer (at least on this tour, in the year 2009) has no interest in seeing Sheryl Crow as a member of the band. Sure, her announcement that she was in the band generated a whole lot of publicity (why wouldn't it?), but the reaction from the general public was more of the "huh? why would they do that?" or "wow, that's really lame" variety. That, along with the fact that the band (rightfully) was offended by her jumping to conclusions, nixed any possibility of it happening right there. Last edited by LukeA; 01-30-2009 at 10:07 PM.. |

I dont think so. For me, the band wouldn't really be the same letting Crow in. I'd be LESS likely to go see them or be interested in what they're doing if she was part of the group. Nothing against Crow...I'd probably be that way with any Christine "replacement"

Oh, please.
Now, it's Lindsey's ego that stopped Sheryl from joining? Was he responsible for WWII, too? How about Global Warming? Sheryl is a great artist, IMO. I've seen her live--without Stevie, and voluntarily, yet! She has success on her own. She doesn't need Fleetwood Mac, and, guess what? They don't need her. They have a sound that's uniquely their own and so does she. Merging the two changes everything, and not necessarily for the better. So, no. I'm sure whatever happens, there's no "regret" in that corner from FM or 90% (I'm guessing) of their fans. And...pssssst....go to a Lindsey concert, if you ever have an opportunity. Unbound creativity is alive and well and, whatever you want to say about the guy, he's not the reason we're not getting new stuff out of Fleetwood Mac. |

There shouldn't have been any talk about her joining at all in the first place. She has no business being in Fleetwood Mac. All it would have turned the band into is Sheryl Crow with Fleetwood Mac.

No offence, but I'd rather chew on my own arm until it fell off. I am all against this 'hits only' nonsense FM is peddling, but let's not pretend that Lindsey is fighting it kicking and screaming. He's just as commercially aware (i.e. money-grabbing) as the other members and does not need to participate if he doesn't want to.

I agree with what most have said. I've got no problem with Sheryl Crow, but the last place I'd want to see her is onstage at a Fleetwood Mac concert. I'd have no problem seeing her at one of Stevie's solo shows, for a few songs.

He is absolutely in this for the money, and said so. And I never would have brought up his name or this issue at all if the original poster didn't imply that it was somehow Lindsey's ego that kept Sheryl from ruining--uh, excuse me--joining Fleetwood Mac. At least Lindsey's not trying (yet) to sell us a bill of goods that he's doing us some big fat favor by letting us hear all the hits that we've been listening to for thirty years for the First Time Ever in one place! and not making us listen to some boring old new stuff that we're all apparently too stupid to process because we don't know the words and can't sing along to it, or whatever the hell they are saying. Kind of like Stevie and Mick's ...uh, Sheryl is a mother and for the sake of her child we told her to stay home! Life on the road is tough with a child, in case you didn't know after your years of touring, Sheryl. Well, geez, thank you very much, Mr. and Mrs. Good Housekeeping. Lindsey's not fighting it at all. He may even join in the party-line soon about how they are NOT in it for the money and love and respect each other and the cycles will keep on turning and all that crap that I wholeheartedly believed once and don't think I believe at all anymore. But, at the end of the day, while Stevie, unfortunately, will probably talk about the music industry being dead and how her fans are ripping her off by bootlegging tapes stolen years and years ago (while we would lick her boots for one new song and spend a fortune buying the same material, sung over and over and over again, umpteen times), Lindsey will probably finance new music with the money he's making on this tour. And, for those of us who are fans, we are grateful. But, hey, I bought a ticket already, so I'm part of the problem, not the solution, as far as this tour is concerned. They talk crap, it's somewhat offensive to me, and I still love them and will stand there cheering my damn fool head off when the time comes. Last edited by Regina; 01-31-2009 at 05:24 PM.. |

Well I think they'll do this tour for the "hits" and they'll eventually put out a new album and tour behind that. I'm hoping.

You think he just figures Stevie will send some "demos" -- like the last time -- & he'll be left in relative isolation to orchestrate songs & get them recorded?

... more like **** them up! I don't think she'll allow this to happen again, hence the mention last year of bringing in an outside producer the next time around.
