Taylor's High Five
By: Eric Taylor, Leader Sports Editor

This week, Sports Editor Eric Taylor rates his top five female rock stars of all time. Next week, look for Staff Writer Jason Glenn's top five vice presidents of all time.

1) Stevie Nicks
A voice like no other. Whether fronting Fleetwood Mac or through a successful solo career, Nicks' voice has stood the test of time. She can melt you with songs like "Leather and Lace" and "Gypsy" or show her rock and roll side with "Stand Back" and "Rhiannon."

2) Janis Joplin
Most people would probably have her first on this list, but her career was cut short as she died (like many others did) as part of the 27 club. Set the tone for other female performers of that era.

3) Nancy Wilson
The guitarist for Heart doesn't get the pub of sister and lead singer, Ann, but she has been just as instrumental to the band's success. I'm not a big fan of women and guitars, but she makes it work.

4) Grace Slick
Was a force behind the psychedelic rock movement in the mid-1960s while writing and performing songs like "White Rabbit" and "Somebody to Love" with Jefferson Airplane. The fact that she was also around for "We Built this City" in the 1980s keeps her from being higher on this list.

5) Pat Benatar
Her opera-like voice made her a star in the 80s. Plus, I love the Seinfeld episode where the fake George Steinbrenner is attempting to sing the words to "Heartbreaker." "Hearbreaker, love taker, shoe maker won't you make my shoes for free."
