Well, I don't think they began to go out in '72, I believe it was around 1970.

The guys in Fritz certainly would say earlier than what SnL say - which is '71, when they moved to LA. '70 is a good guess...I think it may have started a little earlier myself. Speculation though...

She talked about "the waiter" in some interview. He's never been named. Also there's that mystery man who she was dating at the beginning of The Dance tour and the younger guy she mentioned in a recent interview. Note: mystery man and younger guy could be the same person.
