Re the frankenboots. I live is SF so no one really blinks an eye about anything fashion wise but I have seen 2 people wearing those same exact frankenboots and one is a guy who must be 3 1/2 ft tall because even with the boots he is only like 4 1/2 ft tall.

I don't mind her toned down outfits as that is the thing to do when in a group setting. FM is more about the music not the individual personality. The granny sweater though was a bit too conservative.

Stevie solo is more about the personality so we are lucky that we get her solo outfits which is her time to diva things up for us.

True, but if she was having hip/back trouble I can totally understand why she wore them. I just think that with all her money she could have found someone who could design something that worked for her and that was certainly more attractive looking than those things! Good grief!

I know, right?! Someone really ought to do something about him. He's a menace.

Although I fully understand your point about fitting in more as a group than a solo personality... Stevie = Drama and you can still be fashionable and classy and dress the rock and roll part without it being too intrusive. More color and diversity can be exciting and adds to the performance.

If she must wear basic black, add some white or cream or red to it. Oh the waiting until March is killing me.

True, she went way TOO conservative.

I have a feeling that she was being bullied and she got to the point where she was like OK **** it nd **** you you want toned down i will give you toned down.

just make the skirt/dress long enough to cover the creepers- i'd be fine with that.

I don't. I think she wore what she wanted to.

I have no doubt that Lindsey probably asked Stevie to "tone it down" when it comes to her stage wardrobe. It's certainly not beyond the realm of possibility, or even out of character for him.

But of course, Stevie being Stevie, she's going to go to extremes. So instead of toning it down "a little," she's going to tone it way down.

Even when they first joined Fleetwood Mac, Stevie said that Lindsey had a problem with the way she dressed and she said that she can't be his "little woman" when she's on stage and she wasn't telling him how to dress, so he shouldn't tell her. So, yes Lindsey's always got a lot to say about many things, but she didn't listen to him in 1975 and I doubt she'd start listening to him about how she should dress in 2003 at the age of 55 years old, especially when -- with Christine gone -- she had more power in the band than ever, because she was even more of an audience draw than she had been before, with the third singer gone.

Her telling Jim that Lindsey is the reason she dressed that way is just like her mic stand. In one interview she says she never carries the mic because Lindsey called her Miss Vegas or something. But in another interview she admits it's something she doesn't like to do. So, it's a decision she made, but she finds it convenient to blame on Lindsey, when she's in that mood.

Also, what was he telling her to tone it down from? I assume that left to her own devices, she was going to dress for SYW about the same way she dressed during The Dance. What's to tone down about that? I don't think she was trying to break out outfits from the Tusk tour. So, I'd like to hear a few more specifics about what Lindsey said to her exactly and which wardrobe item he was talking about when he said it.

Then too, she wore that granny sweater when she introduced Tom Petty at the awards show and Lindsey wasn't anywhere around. Surely, she had to own more clothes than those she used on stage. So, I don't know why she'd wear something she didn't like both on and off of the tour. I have to assume she wore it because she thought it suited her at the time.

That seems to be the misconception -- that she disliked the cardigan. I don't think she disliked it at all (didn't she even refer to it as "fabulous"?). I think it was more that she sought out something far more conservative than she would have normally worn, because Lindsey suggested/requested it (and of course she's going to relate that request in as melodramatic of a fashion as possible).

So I think she made a concession, but certainly Stevie Nicks is going to ultimately wear what she wants to.

But she was still dressed like Grandma when she introduced Tom Petty. To me, it had less to do with Lindsey and more about the image she wanted to convey at that time in her life. Being at an awards presentation show which would be televised internationally and appearing with someone like Tom whom she adores, I think she'd want to be attired in what she thinks of as her best. So, in choosing that same outfit, I think she must have thought it made her look her best at the time, for reasons having little to do with Lindsey. I simply can't believe she had nothing else (or could buy nothing else) to wear.

thats exactly it, she evens mentions in an interview that Lindsey wanted her to 'tone' her wardrobe down. I was at the opening night show in OH and she was totally 'buttoned' up! we were down in front and she wouldn't even make eye contact, although I do attribute that more to nerves, she looked ready to bug...

The two situations don't have to be contradictory -- she could have downplayed her wardrobe initially at Lindsey's suggestion, and then later felt it was also appropriate to wear to present Tom's award, so as not to be too flashy during his "moment."

Either way, I'm not arguing that she didn't want to wear it. Obviously she did. I'm just saying that it very well may not have been a particular look she would have otherwise adopted, had a "toned-down" wardrobe not first been suggested by Lindsey.

(For the record, I don't think Lindsey demanded that Stevie tone down her wardrobe. I doubt he even made all that much of a fuss over it. I get the feeling that it takes very, very little for the two of them to push each others' buttons, and one request like that from Lindsey would be enough to set off Stevie.)
