Default Stevie & Christine Friendship

What was the relationship like between Stevie & Christine? Anybody know if they got along, were close friends, or were at eachother's throats from time to time?? They seem like such opposites...but maybe the female bond was enough to keep them tight after all they've been through. I'd love to hear Chris's take on the Stevie/Lindsey rollercoaster relationship.

Please share any tidbits you may have on this topic.

According to the Classic Albums: Rumours documentary, they lived in the same condo building on Sausalito harbor during the making of Rumours, while the boys in the band shared a house up in the hills. According to the girls, they would hide in each others condos when John and Lindsey would come to fight with them. They also said they became quite close on the road since they were the only women. We know Stevie has always been an Anglophile too... so I'm sure she looked up to Christine. They talked about there being times when all they had were each other, which I'm sure was true. Being a rock star can be an extremely lonely thing, especially if you're a woman in the 70s.

Christine took up for Stevie when Lindsey attacked her on stage in New Zealand during the Tusk tour. After the band left the stage, apparently Christine slapped Lindsey and threw her wine in his face.

They claim to have been close friends during the height of their fame... but I don't know that the friendship has lasted to this day. For all intensive purposes, it sounds like Chris has pretty much cut ties with all of her rock past. Interviews since about 2002 sounds like she just wants nothing to do with any of it anymore. I can't help but think too that Stevie and Christine's friendship was almost a necessity. Since they were the only women in the band, they pretty much had to stand up for each other (especially in the male centric world of the 70s and 80s). I think their friendship was a shrewd move for them to watch after each others interests as much as anything. They are just so very different, besides being the only women in one of rock's biggest bands (at the time), what could they have had in common?

I guess they were very close during the first 2 (Stevie in FM) albums era. But then success change circumstances, and people.

According to Bob Brunning book, they didnīt socialize that much during the 80s, during Stevie solo career success and her cocaine addiction.

I think they are good friends again, but life takes you to different ways, i think it happens to all of us, lot of friends I do care but canīt meet them frequently. and since S&C live in different countries, now have different interests, I think they donīt talk frequently

There are alot of photos of Stevie and Christine where they are at events or in promo photos, and you always see them clutching each other or holding hands or standing close...they did have a close relationship, and i think they still keep in contact.

Having two girls at each other's throats in the band was one of Mick's main concerns when LB and SN joined. What they have in common, though, I think, is a shared sense of humour (quite vulgar, supposedly) and a shared experience of going through a heck of a lot during the 70s and 80s in the band.

I am sure they don't often communicate anymore, but I suspect like a lot of long-term friendships which grow apart geographically, it'd only take a few minutes of them in the same room again for the old spark to re-ignite. I remember Corey Buckingham saying that very thing when Chris turned up to the rehearsals for the London SYW shows -- the pair of them were giggling away like schoolgirls.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but while she was promoting 'In The Meantime,' I believe Christine said that she still keeps in touch with Mick and Stevie.

There's a good Rolling Stone article on Christine from 1984 (it's in the archive on this site) where Christine says she doesn't socialize much anymore with Stevie because Stevie lives in her own fantasy world--something to that effect. She did say she misses her and that she knows Stevie had and still has a great sense of humor.

The two became close in the 70s but the friendship grew even stronger, I think, during the late eighties, when they were touring without Lindsey. Yes Christine says she still keeps in touch with Mick and Stevie...

Certainly. John said he'd slept with everyone except Mick, didn't he? That means it was a given that he was sleeping with Lindsey and Stevie.

When you talk to non-fans, it is kind of annoying the way they think that all the band members swapped partners. They do think that all the men slept with all the women.

I'll just say what stevie stated some weeks ago in her last appearance with lindsey. she said something like "time doesn't exist for people who really know each other", and that's what I think happens between stevie and chris.
it's like when you reunite with an old friend from highschool...maybe it's been a year you don't have any contact with this person, but inmediately you feel you've been together, talking and sharing your time for the last 3 weeks.

And hasn't she also said in "modern times" that she hears from John every now & then, something to do with swapping recipes?

They probably all interact with one another like cross-country cousins, sending Christmas cards, birthday presents, etc. But they don't get on the telephone every week, or text one another every hour of the day.
