Throwing a shoe at someone is not free speech. If it were, I could walk down the street & throw my shoes at passersby without the risk of being taken into custody. See how silly the notion is? When you throw a shoe at someone, it's a case of assault and/or battery.

The credible threat of violence against another person is a tort issue, & may result in legal action or criminal charges brought or both.
I thought Strand & Michele were the only lawyers here.

JK - I agree with you - it's not an issue of free speech. This was a physical attack, no matter how minor. Still fukcing hilarious though,.

America abides by the Geneva Conventions even with belligerents who do not.

I'm not fond of the new President-elect, but do I throw my size 15 Nikes at him? No.

The Geneva Convention relates to treatment of prisoners of war mostly. The United States invaded and occupied a country, that we can all agree upon. Now imagine if your state, whatever it is, was an individual country and now imagine that for instance the Chinese Army invaded your country, occupied it and terrorized its people, sending the country into more chaos than under your leader who has been executed by the Chinese. Terrorism is rampant, you don't know which "hood" is safe and who is really in charge, complete chaos and constant deaths. Wouldn't you be a little pissed off at the head of the Chinese Army who ordered and continued to support this invasion? And if the sole of a shoe in your culture was the ultimate insult, like being spat upon maybe is here or whatever it is over there, wouldn't you think it is perhaps deserving, that after all the people who have been blasted to pieces and maimed that the leader of that army could do would with the most disrespected act that involves non-violence. He didn't throw a bomb at him, he threw a symbol of the people's hatred at him.

I've stayed up late to watch SNL, what - two weeks now... in hopes of seeing their parody of the shoe throw and all I've seen are Fey/Palin rerun episodes... what gives?! Did I miss it? There isn't any SNL shoe throw clips on You Tube. Is SNL on hiatus? Dang!!!
