I loved

The Darjeeling Limited
The Black Balloon
Australia
Juno
Kite Runner
Burn After Reading
The Counterfeiters

I hated

Step Brothers

And was really let down by Be Kind Rewind. I thought it would be a cool flick to chill out to and seemed like a good idea but it went nowhere and I found it kind of stupid but I didn't HATE it.

MAMMA MIA!! Love it. ABBA music and the greek landscapes combine perfect in this funny musical.

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. Lot of fun, but unfortunately lot of history/geo mistakes. The New Mexico atomic bomb test was in 1945, not in the 50s. Cusco and Nasca are far each other, not in the same place. There are no big waterfalls near Iquitos, peruvian jungle (the falls scene is Iguazu, Brasil-Argentina). and they confuse (peruvian) incas and (mexican mayas). And the last flying saucer scene, ridiculous. But lot of fun anyway.

Sex and the city. Cool.

The day the earth stood still. Could have been better.

The Happening. GOOD!! The woman in the old house is reeeally scary!!

Batman.. THE BEST JOKER!!!

Wow I haven't even seen as many movies this year total that you have in your BEST 20 So here's my favorites and least favorites of 2008:

GREAT:

Role Models (this has to be one of my favorite movies of all time)
Semi Pro (I can't remember if this was this year or 2007 but either way incredible)
Harold and Kumar Escape From Gunatonamo Bay

REALLY GOOD:

Stepbrothers
21

GOOD

Zach and Muri Make a Porno

HORRIBLE:

Don't Mess With a Zohan (Holy Crap is this one of the biggest piles of **** I've ever seen in my life)

Do you really feel that these films are actual "atrocities", or do you merely feel that they are overrated and unworthy of their critical/commercial success?

Calling them "atrocities" seems rather extreme to say the least.

I've seen loads of films this year but my favourites are as follows:

1. The Wrestler
2. The Mist
3. Step Brothers
4. There Will Be Blood
5. Slumdog Millionaire
6. Rachel Getting Married
7. Cloverfield
8. Lars And The Real Girl
9. In Bruges
10. Iron Man
11. Synecdoche New York
12. No Country For Old Men
13. The Fall
14. The Dark Knight
15. Changeling
16. Wendy & Lucy
17. The Orphanage
18. Gomorrah
19. Gonzo: The Life And Work Of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson
20 Che Parts 1 & 2

Special mentions to Eden Lake, Be Kind Rewind, Country Wedding (Sveitabrúðkaup), Happy-Go-Lucky, Frost/Nixon, Gone Baby Gone, CSNY: Deja Vu and Pineapple Express

Worst films: Cassandra's Dream, Chemical Wedding, Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Elite Squad (how did this win the Golden Bear at Berlin?!), Mamma Mia (I'm really sorry, I found it a struggle!), Deception, Botched and...
The Secret (Kala), which was an Indonesian thriller I saw at the London Film Festival. It was crazy but not in a good way, starting out like a film noir crossed with a serial killer thriller it turned into this weird supernatural mystery and finally like some kind of fantasy adventure a la Highlander. I only stayed to the end because I wanted to know what weird way it was all going to turn out. It certainly was full of surprises, I guess.

Biggest disappointments: Quantum Of Solace, Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, Semi-Pro and W.

Haha, I don't see very many movies. I haven't even seen Mamma Mia yet, but I saw the musical when I was going through an ABBA stage.

But, I LOVED Twilight, HATED HSM3, and I though WallE was really cute.

You really thought The Dark Knight was an atrocity? Why?

TrueFaith to each his own, but I thought the Indiana Jones movie was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. And I was a big fan, especially of the first one. I couldn't even make it through the last without fast forwarding it. I thought it really weakened the franchise. Steven and Harrison should have known when to call it quits. Just my opinion.

One of the best movies I rented this year was "Into The Wild". What an amazing life that young man had. I would say more, but I don't want to ruin the ending, incase someone wants to watch it.
