Default Stand Back In '09 Set List???

Hello Dearest Friends,

There is a lot of speculation as it relates to what songs are appropriate for FM to do on this tour. It sounds as though most fans want stevie and lindsey songs exclusively. I want a little something more. I know that sounds bad, but the Standback from the SYW tour was FABULOUS!

Should Stand Back be included on this year's tour? Should ANY Stevie solos be included? What are your thoughts?

Love,
Kenn

Honestly, no. I never cared for any solo stuff in FM shows. Have they not got enough FM material? I mean, give me a break. Yeah, of course, I've danced along to Stand Back at many a FM show but it's the principle. You want Stand Back? Go to a Stevie show. Where's "Crystal" or "Gypsy" AND "Sara" in the same set? How about "Sisters of the Moon" all these years? That song used to be such a show stopper and it's never been done since '82. Of course, it could never have now that level of intensity from the old days.

To me, Stevie's material that was used for FM is a bit more ethereal and mystical. There's a certain "mood" to the songs. The solo stuff, albeit some of which was passed up by FM, tends to be edgier and maybe funkier. There's an attitude to it that is different from the FM songs. The Stevie/FM songs still hold that vision, to me, of Stevie being the "baby sister" (as she has referenced herself) in the group. Stevie in Stand Back is the baby sister leaving home! "So, I walked on down the road away from you..." In other words, I'm outta FM for a while. See ya suckas! Plus, I recall back then that it was sorta disco-ey and funky. Very Prince-ish. Of course we know why. So, on that level, it doesn't belong in a FM set. FM is not disco or funk.

But, I guarantee it'll be there since it was a "hit."

It'll be there, it has since 1987 so why change things now? Once again you'll get to see the major difference between Stevie and Lindsey. When Stevie does "Stand Back" she knocks the roof off the place, when Lindsey does "Go Insane" and "Big Love" (back to back) it's a major beer/bathroom run and half the crowd disappears.
The only time I've seen where "Stand Back" was placed in the set wrong was at the 1997 reunion tour. It was done right before "Oh Daddy" which was really bad placement. First you have the crowd up and really into it, then you bring everything to a screeching halt. Done live "Oh Daddy" is a great song, but not when it follows a barn burner like "Stand Back".

I agree, it will be there along with all the same other songs albeit they may switch out one or two and I guess that's a big change for stevie!
I saw on the FM website that they are going to release a 'NEW CD/DVD PACKAGE OF 'RUMOURS' TO BE RELEASED SIMULTANEOUSLY'
including Never Before Seen Footage and Previously Unreleased Tracks

sheesh, how many more times can they re-release the same stuff??

Nope. No, no, no. Anything but Stand Back again. Even anything solo. Just not Stand Back. Please. Not again.

I think they ought to do STAND BACK again, only this time use a speed oscillator onstage to manipulate Stevie's voice so that she does the whole damn song in an Alvin Chipmunk manner.

Fleetwood Mac concerts have always been weak on laughs, & it's high time they start throwing banana peels.

It really gets me, everytime I go to a Fleetwood Mac show with my family they are totally caught off gaurd when they do Stand Back. My family has seen every tour since the 70's. I mean Stand back has been played on every Stevie/FM tour since the song was released. Its not much of a surprise anymore hehe.

I am ALL about Gypsy, Sara, and Angel!!! I want to hear ANGEL! That is my jam! I was watching my Tusk DOC, the other day and it was so refreshing! I do love standback, it is one of my favorites. I want it in the set IN ADDITION to so many others. I can agree that certain Stevie solo stuff, i.e. Edge of 17 and Stop draggin, does not fit, but in the end... She is a HUGE reason that the sales are as reasonable as they are. I understand that the sales aren't good, but she is a force of the sales being ok...

Although I'd sell a kidney to see Stevie sing Stand Back live before my eyes, I don't think it fits in a FM set. The only solo song that does belong in a FM show is Go Insane, just because it sounds so damn good with Big Love.

Consider why Stand Back was included in the first place. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that it was first put in the set on the Shake The Cage tour because without being able to do Lindsey's songs, they needed some hits to fill up the set. Is that still an issue without Christine?

Just my €0.02!

Probably more so, since she's responsible for a majority of the band's hits.

This is probably what the set list will look like:

The Chain
Dreams
Second Hand News
Never Going Back Again
Rhiannon
Gypsy
Big Love
Landslide
Gold Dust Woman
I'm So Afraid
Silver Springs
Tusk
Go Your Own Way
World Turning
Don't Stop

I Know I'm Not Wrong(?)
Sara(?)

So you almost have to have "Stand Back" to have a whole show. Some have speculated that maybe "Seven Wonders" will be added, but I doubt it.

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

Probably something along those lines. I wouldn't be surprised if Mick was the one who wanted to do it. It was 1987, just a year after the ROCK A LITTLE tour, which Mick camp-followed for a bunch of shows & played congas onstage during. In L.A. he was wild & crazy for STAND BACK. When it came time the following year for Mac to tour, I wouldn't be surprised if he was the one who said, "Let's do STAND BACK."

Stevie probably said, "Well ... OK."

And Chris probably said, "Whatever. I don't care any more."

I have a good idea for a setlist thread. What do you think the setlist for the Tango in the Night Tour would have been if Lindsey had participated? Would we have heard a full band performance of Big Love? Do you think they would have played Family Man since it was a single?

Tim

I don't think Stevie's background vocals would have been as loud for Everywhere. Michele
