I wish I knew where that "lounge act" comment was in the BLA. Lindsey referred to both Stevie's & Christine's then-recent shows as lounge acts, & I think what he meant was that they were presenting their solo shows straight up, no chaser -- too reliant on performance decisions that had already been made by Fleetwood Mac. He would have preferred them to present their respective shows with new ideas: for arrangements, for staging, for this & that. He might have worded it: reimagine the material.
By the time he himself got around to touring solo, that's largely what he did. Even recently, the motif of his gigs was to pare down, to get at the essentials (essential oils are wrung) by stripping away traditional rock combos in favor of invigorated setups: not just the number of backup players used but the approach to orchestration & presentation. In Stevie's case, every time she tours, she tours with a traditional rock band behind her. They play the songs traditionally, they pace the show traditionally, they do everything traditionally. Stevie's shows are always normative rock concerts. I think this is what Lindsey meant by "lounge act." Of course, these differences get to the very heart of the musical & personality differences between the two.
