ORLANDO, Florida (CNN) -- Remains found a half mile from the home of Caylee Anthony, a missing child whose mother is accused of killing her, resemble Caylee, attorneys told a Florida judge Friday.
Caylee Anthony, 3, has been missing since June in a case that has received national attention. 1 of 3 Defense attorneys for suspect Casey Anthony, 22, told Judge Stan Strickland they were notified Thursday that anthropological measurements and the hair color matched those of 3-year-old Caylee. Overnight, investigators searched the home Caylee's grandparents and "absolutely" found something of interest, Orange County, Florida, Sheriff Kevin Beary said Friday morning. The girl often lived in the house with her grandparents and her mother, who was arrested in October and charged with murder. Investigators "concluded there were certain things they wanted to be looking for" and searched the home, Beary said in an interview broadcast on ABC News. Authorities took boxes and bags full of items for review. A utility worker discovered the remains around 9:30 a.m. Thursday and alerted authorities, sheriff's spokesman Jim Solomons said. Police Capt. Angelo Nieves said the skeletal remains found in a plastic bag appeared consistent with those of a young child. Caylee Anthony, 3, has been missing since June in a case that has received national attention. The remains were taken to the county medical examiner's office and will be sent to the FBI lab in Quantico, Virginia, Beary said Thursday. Meanwhile, investigators Friday continued searching the area where the remains were found. "Time is on our side," Beary said Thursday. "We're going to do everything by the book. There will be no mistakes made." Watch sheriff promise 'no mistakes' » Attorneys for Caylee's 22-year-old mother, Casey Anthony, filed an emergency motion asking that their experts be present for any forensic testing done on the remains. A hearing on that motion is set for Friday. Casey Anthony will not be transported from jail to attend, court officials said. CNN affiliate WFTV-TV reported that the utility worker, a meter reader, picked up a bag at the site Thursday morning and a skull fell out. Earlier, Beary told reporters, "Bottom line, it's real simple, folks. We've recovered this human skull. It appears to be that of a small child, and now the investigation continues. We've got a lot of lab work to do, a lot of DNA work to do, a lot of crime scene work to do." Prosecutors had asked police not to disclose many details surrounding the discovery, Beary said. The region had previously been searched as part of the investigation into Caylee's disappearance, he said, but the spot where the remains were found -- some "45, 50, 60 feet back" -- was flooded and underwater at the time. No clothes were found with the remains, he said. Asked whether the remains could belong to another child, Beary said, "Not that we know of, but that's always a possibility, and that's why we've got a lot of work to do on this case still." Corrections officials said Thursday that Casey Anthony remained in protective custody and has no contact with other inmates. "She has been seen by a Corrections Health Services psychologist and her status was reviewed," officials said in a statement, adding she was on psychological observation -- which is not the same as suicide watch. "We will not be releasing any information regarding her demeanor," the statement said, adding that jail policy prohibits interviews of inmates. Defense attorney Jose Baez arrived at the jail just before noon Thursday and stayed about 90 minutes, officials said. In a court hearing earlier Thursday, 9th Circuit Judge Stan Strickland postponed Casey Anthony's trial at the request of Baez, who said he had not received all the evidence from prosecutors and was not ready to proceed with the January 5 trial. Baez asked Strickland if the trial could be delayed until March. The judge scheduled a hearing January 15 to consider a new trial date as well as a possible change of venue. Prosecutors said earlier this month they would not seek the death penalty against Casey Anthony. She could face a sentence of life in prison if convicted. Authorities have said Casey Anthony waited about a month before telling her family that Caylee was gone. Cindy Anthony -- Caylee's grandmother and Casey Anthony's mother -- called the Orange County sheriff's office on July 15, saying her daughter would not tell her where Caylee was. When questioned by police, Casey Anthony gave conflicting statements, including some that were later disproved, according to hundreds of documents and investigative reports released in the case. She claimed she dropped Caylee off with a babysitter, but when police checked out her story, they learned that the address Casey Anthony supplied belonged to an apartment that had been vacant for weeks. The woman Casey Anthony named as her babysitter told police she did not know her. Review a timeline of the case » Investigators previously have said that cadaver dogs picked up the scent of death in Anthony's car, as well as in her parents' back yard. They also said air quality tests conducted by the FBI found evidence consistent with human decomposition and chloroform in the car's trunk. A neighbor told police Anthony had asked to borrow a shovel. Analysis of Anthony's computer found she had visited Web sites discussing chloroform and had done Internet searches of missing children, according to information released in the case. But "there isn't a motive and they haven't found a motive," Cindy Anthony said Wednesday night during an appearance on CNN's "Larry King Live." "They told us they thought it was an accident and she's scared and tried to cover it up. They don't feel there's a motive." Cindy Anthony said searches for the girl's body have "come up with nothing. There's nothing that they have found that, you know, has given them any evidence that Caylee is no longer with us." The Anthonys said they believe the girl is still alive and that someone has her, noting several reports of sightings. Last month, Strickland denied prosecutors' request to impose a gag order in Anthony's case, saying he could not state that continued publicity would pose a threat to her trial, or even that a gag order would stem the flood of media attention. |

i have been following this case since day 1, i watch nancy grace every night along w/ everything else on caylee & reading the blogs & such~ i knew she was gone, tho i wish she wasn't, i kept hoping she would come home, but knew in my heart that she wouldn't~ & since this seems to be the case, i am thankful this poor baby can finally be put to rest~ i am thankful she was found, thank god that meter reader had to relieve himself in the area & found her~
i will watch the trial if it is televised or read about it online~ i will follow this to the end~ this little girl stole my heart~ i can't help but cry everytime they show the last video of her singing "you are my sunshine..."~ she has become a child of so many of us & our hearts & she didn't deserve this or a mother like casey~ i hope whatever they found at the scene of the remains that is tied to the home is rock solid~ there is no way i want this woman & i use that lightly, to ever see freedom again~ hopefully the grandmother if she is involved w/ any type of cover up after the fact will get hers too~ she has changed her story as much as casey has~ & i think the poor grandfather is held by the balls by these women, mom having one & casey the other~ he knew when he smelled that smell in the car what it was & who it was even if he didn't want to believe it~ it has been proven that they all have been lying to ea other their whole life together~ RIP caylee you were truly an angel here on earth ~ |

The grandparents aspect is truly fascinating to me. I just wonder why they did whatever they did to this little girl. She looked like such a little doll. I hope they all get what is coming to them.

Dateline is doing a show on this tonight at 10 PM EST.
I've been following this for a while, also, and I feel so sorry for that baby. I almost don't want to know what happened to her, because I don't want to hear she suffered.

Why does Greta keep talking about how "when WE were there, we went through this & that & investigated such & such ..."?
Since when do they let a reporter & a cable channel conduct a CSI?! What the hell is this world coming to?

Greta wants desperately to be relevant, I guess. Good example of why I try to stay far away from Fox "news." If they can't even report properly on something like this...ugh.

I was watching Nancy Grace last night and that bail bondsmen (another quirk in this case) was saying she went to her boyfriend's house and chloroformed Caylee, put her in the trunk of her car and taped her mouth in case she woke up. WTF?

BUT I somehow see it being more likely that it happened at the parents/grandparents' house - Casey mentions someone "possibly" having been in the house that day - and, if she did knock the baby out, perhaps she gave her too much and it killed her. Or the baby strangled if there was tape on her mouth. Then Casey panicked. But that's just me hoping it was more an accident than a premeditated murder - yes, it's inhuman to knock a kid out with chloroform just so you can get your rocks off, but slightly less inhuman than sitting down and saying, okay, I am going to kill this child so it stops annoying me. Though I WILL say that on the Dateline episode last night, the reporter from Florida that they were interviewing was talking about the chat transcripts they found of Casey's computer, where Casey complains that spending time with Caylee is ten times more exhausting than working a 12 hour event at the club she sometimes worked at, and then calls Caylee a "snothead," which the reporter deems "not a very nice thing to call a child." The reporter got all uppity about that, but all I could think was, "Having kids IS exhausting, and I call mine snotheads all the time." That does not mean I would do anything to my snotheads, of course, other than chase them around the house and annoy them back, but I thought that was a goofy thing to latch onto when there's all this other, more damning stuff to occupy yourself with.

I really dont see her getting the death penalty though. I mean I'm sure her lawyer will be able to use some kind of insanity defense to get her off the hook for that. I'm not happy about that, but it's good that this piece of **** will never see the light of day again at the very least.

Right. Hopefully they have some hard evidence. The initial 911 call is pretty damning. But her mother has done a 180 and now claims her daughter is innocent. Crazy.
