Question Toys 4 Tots

Anyone ever donated to them before?

I think I remember our mother giving toys every year, but I dont remember ever having gone with her.

My brother and I wanted to set an amount between the 2 of us, and go buy "X" number of toys. Do we need to wrap them?

Deb & myself had donated every year to the Marines Toys For Tots (Along with the American Cancer Society), and in her name I made a donation just last week. I will keep that tradition alive as long as I stay alive...

She would've WANTED me to keep it going

One of the marines at Toys For Tots told me earlier today..."Don't forget the teens. Everyone forgets we give gifts to teens too...books, music, anything really...we hardly have anything to give to teenagers."

=(

That's very true, and not just when dealing with Toys for Tots - if any of y'all do any local charities or similar, keep that in mind for those, too. As a former teenage foster kid, I've "been there," so I try to make the gifts I donate almost exclusively teen-friendly.

I discovered that the FYE music store in my area runs ridiculous sales on mp3 players almost constantly throughout the year - like 10 - 15 bucks ridiculous - so I grab up as many of those as I can, when I can. They aren't 80GB iPods, of course, but I hope they make someone somewhere a little happier. Been doing that for the last couple of years.

So if you have an FYE, maybe look and see if they have some cheap-o mp3 players and donate one!

All the same, baby. All the same.

Man, ya aint see nuthin' til ya see big ol' me crying whenever I see "Angel Trees" or "Toys for Tots" displays...Since neither Deb or myself became parents in the 15 years we were married (17 years total) we ALWAYS spent $$$$ on children/teens for those charities.

I might be a big ol' STUBBORN metalhead, but I am like the Grinch with a very soft heart and very easy to bring to tears!

Hell, My MOM, yes my Mom, used to dress up as Santa Claus and visit MRMC and give candy to the patients who were children...Of course that took my being dressed in striped socks and an elf outfit, pointed hat and ear too tsk, tsk, tsk....No one ever figured out Santa was a woman in the years she did that. I still have her homemade clown and Santa outfits in my closet - someday I will continue her fun of making children smile.
