Default Armond White compares "Twilight" to "Sara"

Armond White, our greatest film/music critic, likens "genuine pop classic" Catherine Hardwicke's Twilight to Fleetwood Mac's/Stevie Nicks' certified pop classic "Sara":

Twilight is no sillier than Hellboy or Harry Potter but it’s romantic. Though not campy, it’s less “serious” than the Neil Jordan-Angela Carter erotic fairy tale movie Company of Wolves, but it’s a genuine pop classic. Hardwicke, assisted by Elliott Davis’ vibrant cinematography, creates the aura known from Stevie Nicks’ “Sara” (“Drowning in a sea of love where everyone would love to drown”) as well as the ecstatic danger of ABBA’s “When I Kissed the Teacher”—a ditty that surprisingly goes to everybody’s secret erotic experience and illuminates it to conquer or celebrate it. Horror-movie fans complain that Twilight isn’t bloody enough. But it doesn’t need blood; it’s got ideas.

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

I am not spamming the film. I thought this was of interest. . . . do I strike people on here as a spammer?

Not at all. It was an interesting mini-item you shared.

(Just watch your pronouns -- White may be your greatest film & music critic but he ain't mine! )

I wont comment.

I think that was a really weird review. I am mad, now I might actually see the movie, if it was compared to Sara and one of my friends (who claims to be a guy and we've never doubted that until he said the movie wasn't all bad) saw the movie. Well, no, I don't think that I will.

Of course not! I love all the articles and stuff.

Comparing Sara to Twilight really didn't make sense to me though... But some of Stevie's songs would make perfect sense for the movie!

Sorry I did not mean it persoanly. I do not see any connection whatsoever with Sara and I have never heard of the reviewer. Though you may not have intended it as spam I think the writer did, or who ever is sending the review around the internet.

Here's the wikipedia review of this guy (well, just the first paragraph)

Quote:
Armond White (born in Detroit, Michigan) is a widely-read, controversial internationally published, award-winning American film critic. Recipient of a Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbia University's School of the Arts, he has authored two books on popular culture. White won the ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award for Music Criticism in 1996. He was recently re-elected as Chairman of the New York Film Critics Circle, a post White also held in 1994. White has served on juries at the Sundance Film Festival, Mill Valley Film Festival, Newport (Rhode Island) Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival and several National Endowment for the Arts panels. His reviews for New York Press, Film Comment and The City Sun have been discussed in The New York Times, Time Magazine, Cineaste and Sight and Sound and the web magazine Senses of Cinema. White's criticism is known to be provocative and informed. In a Vanity Fair assessment of White's writing, critic James Wolcott pronounced "Is there a more fiercely independent-minded film critic in the United States?"
