Beach Boy Dennis Wilson's Posthumous Album Hits Top Ten Of Internet Sales Chart
By: Howie Edelson

The posthumous rerelease of Beach Boy Dennis Wilson's solo album Pacific Ocean Blue debuted this week at Number Eight on Sound Scan's Top Internet charts. The reissue of Wilson's 1977 album has been receiving rave reviews, and debuted on the British album charts at Number 16.

Pacific Ocean Blue was first released in August 1977. The new edition includes bonus tracks from the original sessions, and material from Wilson's unfinished 1978 followup album, which was to be called Bambu.

Lindsey Buckingham became friendly with Dennis Wilson when Wilson began dating Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie. Wilson was a frequent visitor to the band's recording sessions for Tusk, which coincided with the Wilson abandoning his own album Bambu: "He was kind of a lost guy. He was a very talented guy -- way more talented than he had the structure to be able to exhibit. You know, he had a lot going on without the tools to sort of get there -- that's my opinion anyway. He was a real sweetheart. He was also a rogue. You know, he was that rogue element."
Upon its original release in 1977, Pacific Ocean Blue only hit Number 96 in the album chart, but went on to outsell the Beach Boys albums that preceded and followed it.

I just got the album and I think it's amazing. Love it.

Excerpt from beginning of Pacific Blue Review, November 5, 2008:

Notre Dame, St. Mary's College Observer, by Analise Lipari

http://media.www.ndsmcobserver.com/m...-3524738.shtml

Lindsey Buckingham, a member of Fleetwood Mac, once described Dennis Wilson, drummer for the Beach Boys, as halfway to his famous brother, Brian Wilson. "He was crazy just like a lot of other people," Buckingham said, "but he had a really big heart, and he was the closest thing to Brian [Wilson] there was, too. He was halfway there." A founding member of the Beach Boys, Dennis Wilson is not Brian or Carl, but a drummer, musician and songwriter in his own right.
