In 1967, Fleetwood Mac made their first public appearance at the British Jazz and Blues Festival. Their debut netted them a recording contract, and their first album stayed near the top of the British charts for more than a year.

On this day in 1967, Fleetwood Mac made their live debut at London's National Jazz & Blues Festival. The festival's headliners were two British artists who were neither blues nor jazz: Donovan and Pink Floyd. Oh, the Sixties!

Yes, I could correct it inside the thread, but not on the menu. However, I believe Peter's Great-Great-Great-Great-Great Grandmother was born on August 12, 1067, so it's all good.

1067 was one year after the Norman (French) conquest of Britain, and the year 1067 therefore is famous in world history as the year when the Brits started teaching their French conquerers how to write a great 3-minute pop song.

Ah yes, August 12th, 1967 - memorable for being the day before Fleetwood's Mac's debut performance at the Windsor Jazz and Blues Festival!!!

Please, people - get the date correct. Goes to show you can't believe everything you read on the internet......

And another correction - the group's debut certainly did not get them their recording contract, they'd already been working with Mike Vernon of Blue Horizon at that point.

I'm gonna listen to that first show sometime today! I have the first show on CD, and was at the last show (to date)! Honestly, though, it was the stuff in-between that really makes me smile!

Although by 1967, they were reduced to having David Bowie attempt English lyrics to the French tune "Comme d'habitude", although he was beaten to the punch by Paul Anka.
