The band: Fred Schnieder - Vocals Kate Pierson - Vocals Cindy Wilson - Vocals Keith Strickland - Guitar Paul Gordon - Guitar, keyboards Sterling Campbell - Drums Tracy Wormworth - Bass Notes: This was recorded on the Glasgow stop on the short UK Funplex tour. The guys'n'gals might be a bit older, but they are still as much fun as ever and put on a great, energetic show. The Carling didn't have the balcony open, but the rest of the venue seemed packed to me. I have to say, I'm quite liking the Funplex material (esp. Juliet Of The Spirits), but as always, was really looking forward to the classics. Planet Claire was excellent, as was Rock Lobster, ahhh... it was ALL good! The crowd were certainly up for a bit of of singing and dancing as well as chucking a beach ball around - makes a change from half-full beer glasses. Kate caught the ball, but immediately regretted it, grimacing as she described it as "wet and slimy". Fred seemed quite concerned about the age of the chip fat in the chippy next door, as it was deemed to be "the source of the bad smell." :-) First time taping in front of a stack and didn't leave quite as much headroom as I thought I had, so there are just a couple of places when Fred shouts right into the mic, that a very small bit of overload can just be heard (Party Out Of Bounds is one and intro to Channel Z another) - apologies - though it doesn't really detract from this very clear recording, perhaps aided by my new Church Audio CA14 mics? I decided not to do anything to the recording, other than as per the transfer info above. The bass is quite strong, but not over the top IMO. Please support The B-52s by buying their albums & merch, and by going to see them live. http://www.astralwerks.com/b-52s/default.asp http://www.myspace.com/theb52s http://www.glasgow-academy.co.uk/ No art - make your own!
