I doubt that Stevie has much to do with the bookings etc other than to say yeah or nay.
no offense against nebraska taken, but does she think because we live here we don't have money?~ everytime she or the mac have played here, they sold out or came damn close to it~

I'm not sure which was less soothing: hearing of those suffering from shrinkage, the BIG BLUE virtual print or that parakeet in the background of David's video expressing it's discontent with 'Rhiannon.' (must be one of the "Stevie Nicks 1000.")

Imagine Stevie not wanting to spend her big private birthday party (with family and invited guests) opening a box of letters from fans.

Having done and seen these contracts, it is often a promoter who will decide upon a list of people or groups they want to appear, contact their management (booking agent) and ask if they are available and for what $$ and expenses etc. It can work the other way around as well, BUT promoters in a market, for example, Chicago, know who draws and who does NOT and will be proactive in seeking out a band, contact the booking agents and then say, lets make a deal and some $$ together. Stevie's booking agents are not on a constant prowl to book her, for example at corporate gigs. They are often contacted by promoters or corporate travel and entertainment departments etc to book them for these gigs.

The point is, Nebraska or the UK are not necessarily ignored by artists booking agents, its just that the forums promoters neither have the wherewithal (i.e. $$) to bring them in (lots of expense and booking money up front) or they do not have the confidence that they will draw (thereby losing money for BOTH the forum and the promoter) Which leads to who is really making all the money, the artist, the booking agennt, the promoter or the forum. Thats a whole other issue.

What about Mick's tour which is going abroad? I wonder who is paying for that. Since it is tied in to his wine, I guess the wine manufacturer is footing the bill for his music tour, as a publicity cost.

She's 60 now for godsakes, can't she do an album, if she's willing to, or do concerts that include some positive material? I get she had a tough deal with coke and Klonopin and Lindsey and whoever else, but can't she look forward instead of backward? I presume she lives in a beautiful beach house now, did/does the whole US soldiers iPod thing, she's still as popular as ever, she should feel, as a poet, inspired everyday, and I feel she'd much rather lament and bitch about the past than write positively about the here and now.
It is that narcsissicism and turmoil that created the songs that all of us remain fans of her for..Now we just seem to have the narcissicism without the turmoil and creativity so I'm beginning to wonder what is really left besides of course the interminably touring oldies act.

I love this sense of entitlement that people have where they think that this woman who's been doing music for over 40 years somehow owes them something. Stevie doesn't have to do anything Stevie doesn't want to do. Imagine if I wrote to you and said, I really liked that post you made on the thread about Stevie's love for mayonnaise, you're going to write Ledge posts all day long every day for the next six months because I want you to. Being a fan of your writing on The Ledge you owe me that much. I mean, I've read your posts, gone through your garbage, taken pics of you when you weren't looking and read your personal emails (that I got from your maid when she went into your bedroom while you were at work and downloaded them). I mean, I know more about you than you do, so how could you not owe me? Now get to writing, I need more material. And I don't care if you don't want to. And don't even think about reposting old posts, I'll know. Now I'm going to go write about the intimate details of your sex life, all your relationships, especially the bad ones, and tell you how you could have handled them better. Oh, and I'm also going to make fun of every bad picture you've ever taken and I might call you fat a few times.

It's hard to decide which side to be on in this argument. Instead of entitlement, maybe it more of hope or maybe high expectations. Points of argement in her favor would be:

1. Look at the amount of work that could be considered great from the years '73 to
'83 (or being generous adding "85 to '89). If this was all we had from Stevie what
an impressive amount of work that would be.

2. After '89 there where many wasted years. Not counting Greatest collections
what was released that could be considered comparable to her earlier work
from 1990 to 1996?

3. She got her life back together in time for "The Dance" in '97. With the commercial
success of that album there where many blown opportunites that could have been
tied into this comeback. For example this is when the Buckingham Nicks CD re-
release should have come out. Plus a lot of video should have hit the stores to
ride their continuing success of "The Dance". For example video from the tours of
Rumours, Tusk and Mirage.

4. After being inducted into the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame in '98 the downfall began.
______________________________________________________________

As for Stevie not having to do anything she doesn't want to do. That's a very
dangerous position to be in, and that's when most artist fail. Elvis Presley was
in a simular position and we see where it got him. Waisting his final years and
with no one brave enough to tell him "no" or brave enough to point him in a
different direction. And their careers are also simular in the fact they didn't
change their setlist much if at all. And that kills the artist motivation. How
could they possibly be enthused about singing the same songs everynight?

So she's had a great career, but times running out to add to it. I really hope
she will give us one more great album solo or with the Mac. Does she owe us?
I don't think so. But it would be great to retire on a high note, and not being
just another "Oldies" act.

I did chuckle at your post but for me it has nothing to do with a sense of entitlement, it wouldn't bother me if she never released another thing to tell the truth.
For me it's more the sad realisation that perhaps Stevie isn't the artist I thought she was. That she's happy to rest on her laurels rather than a remain creative, current artist, preferring instead to become a nostalgia act and cover band, and, rather than just admit it, she always has someone to blame: it's Lindsey, it's the fans, it's the money. None of those excuses cut it for me, especially the money one considering the millions she's made, while artists who have only earned a quarter of what she has continue to be creative. And if she's worried about the cost of making a new album (although I think she should just learn to be less extravagant in the recording studio), she could easily release an album of already recorded tracks like Julia, My Heart, The Dealer etc.
Ultimately I think she's happier singing Dreams or Rhiannon for the millionth time, because she figures that's where the money is. Problem is, I think there's fewer and fewer people who want to see her sing those songs again and with less and less emotion or enthusiasm. Like it or not, it's new material that helps invigorate the older stuff. It gets new people to concerts, entices those who haven't been to see her in a while and would help keep her interesting as a live act. But then I don't know how I feel about an "artist" who is just all about the money now and not about the art especially with so many other great artists out there that continue to be interesting.
But maybe I expect too much from her. I just thought she was better than the Vegas nostalgia act she's become.

I actually would extend this to the to the end of the 'Tango' sessions, whenever those completed...(early '87?)

Agree totally. This was the time to ride that wave.

I think there was a brief resurge with the TISL project, some of the music on that album was felt pretty, well, heartfelt. The press she did for it certainly seemed so..

Every summer, at the Jones Beach Theater here in NY, you can always count on incarnations of Chicago, The Beach Boys, Jethro Tull, Santana, Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band, Yes, The Moody Blues, The Allman Brothers, etc. Year after year. Stevie has joined that club. Too bad, a Stevie concert every few years used to be an 'event'.
