[Older article, I haven't seen online before]
Music Week, April 3, 2004 HEADLINE: SNAP SHOT: CHRISTINE MCVIE BODY: One-time Fleetwood Mac songwriter and vocalist Christine McVie's first solo outing in two decades is to mark the first link-up between Adventure Records and Sanctuary since their chart-topping Christmas triumph with Mad World. Following the UK platinum-selling success of the Michael Andrews featuring Gary Jules single, the two companies are joining forces again for the release on June 7 of McVie's Meantime. The title, the first solo album since McVie's self-titled release, also reunites McVie with Adventure Records co-founder Paul Conroy, who worked with her on Fleetwood Mac releases while he was an executive at Warner Music and landed this new release following an approach by her manager and music publisher Martin Wyatt. "He brought it to me and I just loved it," says Conroy. Conroy then decided to speak to Sanctuary about co-handling the album due to its track record of working with mature artists such as Steve Winwood and Todd Rundgren. Adventure has gone with Sanctuary for the world outside the US and Canada, while teaming up with Koch in North America. Separately, McVie and Wyatt have overseen the launch of a new publishing operation, Quaives Music, which debuts with the new album. Cast list: Label: Adventure/Sanctuary. Publisher: Quaives Music. National Radio: Mick Garbutt, Lucid PR. Press: Barbara Charone, MBC. Product manager: Chris Hendire, Sanctuary. Marketing: Giles Green, Sanctuary. |

Martin Wyatt is supposedly in talks with Universal to "re-work" In the Meantime - whatever that means.
Gail PS thanks for posting this |

'The Quaives' by the way, is the name of her house in Kent. Lets hope they do a good job on re-working In the Meantime with bonus tracks,out-takes etc. John. |

WHY?? It didn't sell the first time. Trying to beat a dead horse. I love Christine and all, but the album did not measure up commercially???

But distribution is cheap enough now that you don't really need a large audience. The people who bought the first one are the same people wh would like a re-mastered version with bonus tracks. I mean, I'm not a completist and don't have to have 3 versions of the same thing repackaged. But if it's going to be BETTER than the original, then I will buy it again. Definitely.

I have already have three ITM CDs. What's one more?
I'd gladly buy another copy, especially if there's at least a little something different with this hopefully new release. |

Gail PS That's four of us that would buy it. Surely that warrants its release? |

I'll buy it, too. That makes five (lol).
I'd also buy it on vinyl if available.

I am glad Christine wants to push a reissue because it proves she is aware of the recording's strengths. I've said it before and I'll say it again: ITM is Christine at her best--and it went criminally unnoticed by the majority of the press and buying public.
Maybe the reissue/new edition would have more photos? One can only hope. Last edited by aleuzzi; 05-24-2008 at 11:09 AM.. |

I'll buy a copy. I deliberately did not buy a copy the first time around because I knew that a reissue would be offered within five years, & I preferred to have the reissue.

That's one of the appeals of indie rock. They say if an artist can get between 600-1,000 die-hard fans, they can easily make money by doing it on their own than if they were with the traditional record companies. It's what keeps guys like Robert Pollard going strong. He has about 750 die-hards, and they consistently come through. He's not making Eagles money, but he's gets coverage in Billboard and Spin, releases as many albums as he wants, tours, and still has a fairly normal life.

Here's what I like from IN THE MEANTIME (is that what it's called?): 1. Christine's singing. 2. Christine's songs. 3. Christine's stylish musicianship. Exactly the same things I liked about her 1984 album. Here's what I don't like: 1. The style-free musicianship of the others involved. 2. Arrangements that are inchoate or downright inarticulate, with no narrative arc. Another thing I like about MEANTIME is: 1. Ken Caillat's stylish production. Unfortunately, none of that on the 1984 album. What all this means is that Christine's solo albums should be a lot more Christine & a lot less everybody else. Unfortunately, that runs starkly contradistinctively to her personality & inclination. I bet this is the first post in Ledge history to use the phrase "starkly contradistinctively." ![]()
