Hey Pip..

It does look like she's seemed to have ripped off several more people's pictures as well.. Nice person huh? LOL.. I know you can't "prevent" someone from doing this, if you have your own website.. but geez.. if anyone knows the slightest thing about common courtesy, it sure would be nice to have someone at the very least "ask" your permission! Especially, if I had some very rare, copy-righted pictures which I paid through the nose for! If you would like the information of my friend to contact her regarding this.. I'll be more than happy to pass it on to you - so you can talk with them!

Hugs,

Arlene

a word to the wise...if you want something to stay in your possession do not post it on the Internet...

I have many a time right clicked a pic, photoshopped it, printed it on a great color copier, and tucked it away in my personal collection which is where it stays...but it's very easy for an unscrupulous someone to take the next step and offer it for resale as an original on ebay or somewhere else....

I'm sorry for your friend and I'm sorry for all artists be it singer, writer, photographer, computer programmers who try to maintain their copyrights but Internet is still wild so an artistic person must be aware that their work can easily be stolen out here and where it ends up may not necessarily be the guilty party...

a balance must be struck between getting your work noticed and understanding that that very work will probably be stolen...

I love to write poetry and have posted many poems online but I understand that they may be stolen and claimed as "anothers" but I've done this with eyes wide open. Those poems that are truly close to my heart will stay private and those already published well I've been paid at least once!!!
Thanks for this sweet post, and I couldn't agree more with what all you said.. Just please be sure and not let your "good" poetry out at all.. It's really sad that things have to be like that.. but what can you do?

BTW, the owner's name of the rhiannonfire hp is NOT Amber, her name is Christy. I've dealed with her several times at eBay. And to my knowledge she buys alot of photos off eBay. Regarding gallery 9 on her site...as I can see she mentioned that many of the photos were taken by the original photographers (she also mentioned yours, Shel!). You can see her note on the upper corner left right beside the Gallery 9 bar. On her frontpage she also says that she will give credit to that person who owns the copyrights. So I don't really know what her mistake is.

It sure would've been nice to be able to have a say in this. So, here we go. I am the owner of rhiannonfire.com I have NOT in ANY WAY stolen anything from anyone. Photos posted are in my actual collection, purchased via ebay, record shows, private sellers, trades.. I do not sell from my site or anything like that. Anyone wants photos credited or removed, I have that clearly stated on there and have no problem either way. The photos are small for webspace purposes and also to prevent anyone from printing copyright photos. I don't claim to own any copyrights to anything on there. They are from my personal collection and this is simply a "fansite". So, I can't see what is so "wrong" about anything.
Arlene, drop me an email please-let me know who I ripped off. I have an idea of who it is, but I am not one to jump the gun. If anyone has any other problems, questions, or concerns....my email is posted on every page. Here it is again for anyone who doesn't feel like hitting the site again: [email protected] I look so forward to hearing from you all! Have a great night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It looks to me like she has just collected pictures online.... like I would imagine most of us do. And then taken the time to post loads of them on a website. She does say on her main page that people should contact her for credit on photos.

As for the other matter on what was taken without permission... I don't really need to know the ins and outs.. I was just curious when I thought you were saying all the pictures on the second website were stolen from your friend. That clearly isn't the case

I would hazard a guess that most of us a guilty of right clicking photos online.. even copyright ones if they are posted. I know I have tons of pictures on my computer and I couldn't begin to know who took them, where I saw them etc. I just don't have the time and inclination to build a website and display them online. The pictures on this second site are obviously small the reason to prevent people printing them out and selling them.

I would probably have to go along with that, as I know I've done it too, but I've never been guilty of stabbing someone in the back, all the while calling them "my friend" and stealing EVERYTHING off of their website, which took them YEARS to build, without at least asking permission! Huge difference!

let's see....the website you are speaking of had a "no right click" option....plus she and I WERE friends for years before that. No one stabbed anyone in the back in that situation....(not that it is anyone's business) things just went sour for several reasons on both our parts. I think it's pretty sad though for things to be turned around on me. I was the only person who did NOT take from her site even though she offered me anything from it. Did it occur to you, since you realize we were friends that she and I traded actual photos, therefore I hand scanned them myself and posted them? And as far as graphics, you wouldn't find a single one of hers on mine....I made all mine with the exception of backgrounds and gifs. So, I think perhaps it is wrong to judge me when you don't even know me.

Well, I have to admit, I didn't see the notice you mentioned before I made my comment. I didn't intend for my comment to be an attack, and I apologize if it came across that way but on the other hand, cropped versions of my photos were included in that gallery without my knowledge. I certainly don't fault anyone for posting photos on their site that they don't own copyrights to, of course anyone with a website has probably been guilty of that at one point (me included!).

luv,
Shel

There is perhaps more to this... but I don't see how anyone can be accused of stealing something on a website... unless it has right click disabled.. but then we all know there are ways around that anyway. At the end of the day nothing is sacred online. It's unfortunate that is the case but that's the way it is. I know this from my own personal experiences.

Personally I don't think any of us have a clue what really happens in fall outs between friends because each side is bound to give a distorted view. JMO

Im not judging you in the least.. I know what I've talked with them about, and I'm not judging at all! I know true, cold facts.. and unfortuntaly, I'm not "going there" with you here and now, but just sent you a long e-mail letting you know the 'truth" behind what I've been told! No.. this isn't the place to discuss this, and I'm certainly not getting into any further discussion on this board! You'll get my e-mail and respond!

Thanks!

Allow me to ease the tension by posting some REALLY BIG pictures!

I stole these pictures two years ago from someone who took them from someone who had an account with Corbis, so my conscience is perfectly clear.
