I had a nightmare the other night that some people didn't find my chit-chat topics interesting.

So from now on, I'm going to be more mainstream, more hip, more up-to-date ... or whatever it takes to appeal to larger numbers.

I was thinking of starting a grammar & usage assistance thread, for example. We have a lot of kids on the board in school who have to write reports & essay exams. They might appreciate my assistance.

So, aren't you doing the same thing? You are attatching sinister sounding motives to people you don't know. Painting them as having some intrinsic character flaw. Is it to make yourself feel more superior?

If it bothers you so much, doesn't your ignore feature work as well? I thought that was how it was supposed to work. If you don't like what someone says, you can comment in the thread (within the stated rules) of your displeasure with the poster or you have the option to use the ignore feature.

Imagine it. You would never have to read a single post from "the bashers" again. Simple.

So if you speak up and say you don't like something when it's put in front of you, that makes you either deluded and self-important, or dysfunctional? Hands up anyone here who has never ever voiced displeasure at a thread or a post... didn't think so. If someone posts something on a message board, they can expect people to say what they think. It's not about bashing other people, it's about stating an opinion that something is a load of old crap, that's all. Some people happen to think this thread is a load of old crap, others don't - some people's opinions are stronger than others. Some might say life is like that The world keeps turning and we all move on.

Everyone has character flaws. Nobody is perfect or superior. Humility is a character strength.

If you hate Mc Donalds, do you stop into every one you pass on your drive into work just to mention that their food sucks? If someone did that would you say that's dysfunctional, or the person has unreasonable views of their own importance? I'd at least say that it was pretty crazy of them, and pointless to boot. If they were tricked into the Mc Donalds, because the sign outside said Tavern On The Green, or forced to go, that's a different story.

Reading and commenting on a post you don't like in a thread is fine. This isn't the case here. People know damn well they don't like Vivica Fox, but still clicked on the thread. (See my previous post about Mc Donalds). If you go into a thread that's accurately titled only to make fun of what was posted is ridiculing the original poster, and that is against the rules. Now, if the OP is cool with it and has a sense of humor that's fine, but lets not try to spin it into anything else than what it is.

Pointing out that there are individuals who are walking a thin line between acceptable behavior on the threads and behaviors that aren't, and explaining why, isn't bashing.

As far as putting "bashers" on ignore, people shouldn't have to accommodate individuals who can't play nice. The individuals who can't play nice should have to follow the rules, or start their own club.

That's not really relevant to my argument, and not even nearly a comparable situation. If I happened to be in my usual McDonalds minding my own business eating burgers and fries, and each time I visited I saw the same person in the corner doing something slightly irrelevant and annoying, it would eventually be reasonable of me to ask why they're doing it, and if they kept doing it, I'd be entitled to make it clear how annoying they were.

Everyone else in that McDonalds could, in fact, ~ignore~ me if they wanted.

But if you didn't like Mc Donalds you wouldn't be in there at all, right?
It's very comparable actually. Let's not get stuck on Mc Donalds though. You can insert any resteraunt that you don't like and compare it to this thread. If you know you don't like a place you don't go in it. If you do, you made that choice and shouldn't complain. How is that not comparable to what's happening here?

So you are saying that you and other individuals here enjoy Vivica Fox and came into the thread, but didn't like the posts about her once you were here so pointed that out?

Indeed, I don't quite see your point.

And no, I'm saying that "other individuals here" like coming on this message board, and into chitchat, and had opinions about this thread. So they pointed it out. Personally, before I read this thread, I had no idea who Vivica Fox is or was, and life was much better then.

Ok, now you've edited, I think I understand what you're trying to say. You're comparing this thread to a restaurant I don't like. Consider the restuarant to be on a street you walk down every day, a street you like, and you see that restaurant every day. You don't see the point of that restaurant because it serves food that doesn't seem to be relevant to anything. Say it serves dog food. After passing that restaurant a few hundred times, I would probably eventually walk in and say, "Why the hell do you serve dog food? No-one eats it."

I'm saying if you don't like something, or aren't interested in something it's irrational to take part in it only to complain about it, and yet that's what people did when they logged on, saw the title of this thread and still opened it, then started posting about how stupid it was.

I think people started by laughing at it, which is different to complaining about it, and not irrational at all.
