No one was forced to stay in the group, ever. This idea that career necessity is what forced the others to stay in the group, whereas Stevie already had a great career outside the group & so returned only out of commitment & virtue, is bunk. It pulls the rug out from under the others before even giving them a chance to do an entrechat six or a demi-plié. It's akin to applauding the rich man for his healthful diet when the poor man eats nothing but bologna. Commitment must stand on an equal footing of circumstance & opportunity. Besides, Stevie was treated like a moron for many years in the group, but still didn't leave. That's not commitment. That's dumbness.

I completely agree. She's no more commited to the band than Lindsey. I also think it's pretty ridiculous to cite Stevie's solo triumphs when she's basically become a Vegas act, playing the old hits to a bunch of old fans. She may have another solo project in the works, but she hasn't actually released new material since 2001. She seems satisfied to keep releasing compilations instead. I mean, from 1991 to 2007, she released a best of, a box set and yet another best of with only two albums of new material (neither of which, IMO, were anywhere near as good as her previous solo work) in that same time frame. How triumphant is that?

I also find it really harsh to villify Lindsey for being jealous of Stevie's success. Jealousy is a very natural emotion that we all feel from time to time. People are too quick to assume that he doesn't want Stevie to be the success that she is, rather than the more likely (IMO) case of him simply feeling that he deserves the same level of success.
