Hold it, Mac Rumor has it there's dissent in the Fleetwood Mac camp over Rumours Revisited, an all-star tribute album coming out March 24 on Atlantic Records.

Among the acts remaking songs from Mac's classic 1977 album are Elton John ("Don't Stop"), Shawn Colvin ("The Chain"), the Cranberries ("Go Your Own Way"), Jewel ("You Make Loving Fun"), Matchbox 20 ("Never Going Back Again") and Sister Hazel, who unveiled their version of "Gold Dust Woman" last weekend at Deep Ellum Live.

"The band [Fleetwood Mac] heard it, and they loved it," Sister Hazel member Andrew Copeland told The Dallas Morning News recently.

"That blew us away. " Well, the entire band didn't love it: Stevie Nicks sang an entirely different tune when we asked her about the disc a few months ago.

"I'm not dead, so I don't need to have a tribute album done to me," she said. "That thing was put together way before anybody knew this [reunion] was going to happen. I was not asked. I was not spoken to, and if we could undo that, we would. "

Bonus tracks That thud you heard Wednesday during the Grammy Awards was not thunder: It was the voters slapping LeAnn Rimes in the face as Trisha Yearwood's version of "How Do I Live" was named best female country vocal performance right after Ms. RimesNick"music-industry"position available now: The music editor slot at the Dallas Observer is currently open, which is a polite way of saying that Matt Weitz has been set free to find other gainful employment. Mr. Weitz confirmed that he was let go but said he had no furtherThursday, Late ShowWith David Letterman. Celtic singer Loreena McKennitt appears Wednesday and country singer Mark Chesnutt performs Thursday. . . . The Honeydogs have dropped off as opening act for Mary Lou Lord's March 11 Galaxy Club show; local favorite Centro-matic will fill the bill. . . . Out now: POPaganda, the "soundtrack accompaniment" to a CD-ROM of art by Ron English, an artist and former Dallas resident who attended the University of North Texas and the University of Texas at Austin. The compilation is a series of songs about Mr. English, with contributions by many local acts Mr. English befriended during his eight-year Texas residency, including Tripping Daisy, the Sutcliffes and former Dallas resident Robby Ledoux.

Staff writers Thor Christensen, Teresa Gubbins, David Okamoto and Mario Tarradell contributed to this report.

Hmm. in order she says "I'm", "I", "I", and "I". And then a "we". I wonder if the "we" were really looking to undo the tribute, or she was blowing smoke. I would have thought that an album of homage would have been very flattering.

But Mick was all into it wasn't he?

Stevie is very funny. I laughed that she said she wasn't dead yet, but I also laughed because she says she doesn't need to have a tribute "done to me."

I have to say that I am all over that version of NGBA. In fact, although a lot of people really make fun of Rob Thomas, I'd be thrilled to have him work with Lindsey.

Overall I think the versions on Legacy really suck, but The Goo Goo Dolls version if I Don't Want to Know is awseome, better then the original in my opinion.

As usual, Stevie has a dingbat & utterly irrelevant reason for not liking the album.

I don't think I've played this album in about ten years. I bought it when it was released & I played it & I just didn't like it. It was a bland miscalculation, & the roster of bands chosen was sorry-ass. I believe the lineup was Mick's arrangement/plan. Musically, this may just be the worst whole-album tribute in rock (although Camper van Beethoven's TUSK could run it a close second).

Au contraire! I thought CVB's version of Tusk was genius. They ripped every song apart and put it back together while maintaining that indie/raw edge. Their 12-minute version of "Tusk" and the Spanish folkie sound of "Honey Hi" are brilliant! And I think their version of "Storms" is so mournful... even moreso than the original. And the use of the voice generator on "Sisters of the Moon" is just the funniest thing ever.

I concur. Amazing album, weird for sure, but they sure had fun doing it and made it their own.

Stevie bugs me in interviews, I actually can't stand it when she talks. She can be such a bitch. Besides, does Stevie not own some publishing rights to her music? If she does, she gave permission, if not...she is is a fool once more.

You don't have to give permission. Blanket licensing rights allow people to record your song without permission. All they have to do is pay the fee to the publishing company. Now, if they are going to use the song in a movie or video or something, then they need permission.

Undoing the Laces: Ah yes, Stevie surely would've sh*t herself if she heard Fleetwood Mac: Patron Saints Of Pop. A friend of mine had it and played it enough that it really grew on me. Not for your average soccer-mom Fleetwood Mac fan however! Ricoh

I imagine Lindsey loved it, especially since he was well represented in the collection. I think this tribute records is WAAAAAAAY better than the mainstream one. It's funny, quirky, and inspired. I asked Bob Welch in his second QA if he'd heard the Purple Ivy Shadows' version of "Hypnotized": he had and said it was "interesting."

Ha! That's awesome. The version of Gypsy by Home always makes me melancholy. Even though their emo approach may not be everyone's cup of tea, it seems to have the heartfelt emotion that the lyrics imply. The way they sing "she was just a wish, she was juuuust a wish". When I'm singing along to the karaoke version I always sing that line in that exact way. Although right before that, when they come back from the instrumental break, where they sing "she is dancing away from me now", it always makes me giggle a little because it sounds like all the voices are trying to find one common note and having a bit of trouble finding it. Heh heh. But overall I do love it. I used to have it on a mixtape right before the demo version of The Beatles' Tomorrow Never Knows because it had that same sort of sound. They go really well together.

I like this CD too. It's a lot more creative than the Camper van Beethoven work. I think that band is overrated, anyway -- they ideas are dull & they can't play their instruments well.

I would, but I don't have mine any more.

Besides, rock music is for the birds!
