You're welcome!

rhiannon_rising, here are some more songs from the coffee plant demo set. They are pretty good quality, around B, B+, except Silver Springs, which isn't so great. I had to upload the last few to speedyshare, because mediafire kept bringing up an error message.

Storms (really, really long instrumental at the beginning)

Candlebright/Nomad

That's Alright/Designs of Love

Garbo, Sorcerer, Goldfish and the Ladybug and Cathouse Blues

Smile At You, Castaway and Silver Springs

Livvy, you've just made my night. That version of Castaway you posted is my ultimate favorite out of all the ones floating around and all the files I've heard so far have this strange lowering of pitch and tempo about half way through, as if the cassette player or turntable it was being ripped from suddenly started running slower. It's always been a frustration of mine because I used to have a cassette boot of this and I knew it didn't do that. This is the clearest I've ever heard of this recording. As it stands the source isn't all that great and I've always wished a master of this would surface somewhere. It's my favorite of all Stevie's demos. Years later when she tried to do it again with the girls it sounds like she's trying to do it from memory and not getting all the chords right, her take is almost cocky, as if she's leaving the person behind and proud of it. Changing one simple word, from "I could leave today" to "I should leave today" changes the whole tone of the song for me. I like the understated sentiment of the original and the way she sings, "...and I guess I miss you". It's like looking back on a love affair and wistfully regretting how things turned out.

I've asked this before here a long time ago but does anyone have any info on this song at all? Who inspired it, where this recording was made? Anything?

Thanks again, Livvy. I've got a great big smile on my face.

Sincerely,
Don

Thank you for your reply! I agree, it's a great song! I've only ever heard this version, and I really like it. I totally agree with you on what it's about, looking back with regret. I looked on buckinghamnicks.net, which is usually pretty good regarding song info and stuff, but not on Castaway. If you find anything out, let me know! I'm really glad you like this version! Enjoy it .

Here are the last four tracks

After The Gliiter Fades, Crying In The Night (alt. version), Kind of Woman and Think About It

Thanks for the Coffee Plant Demos When were these recorded? I have a CD called "Coffee Plant Demos" but these are Buckingham Nicks only. When are yours from?

Thanks again

You're welcome! I'm not entirely sure. I dowloaded them from throwndown.net, and the uploader said that Coffee Plant Demos are kind of a misnomer for this set, but that's what they've been called for years. I think some of them like Sorcerer and Cathouse Blues were recorded at the coffee plant, but others like Silver Springs came much later. Does your CD have any different tracks on it to the set I posted?

The CD I've got is Buckingham Nicks specifically, which is what made me wonder if yours is a different era.
It has a different tracklist but with a few tracks repeated.

Coffee Plant Demos

1. Without You
2. Nomad
3. That's Alright
4. Garbo
5. Sorcerer
6. Cathouse Blues
7. Goldfish and the Lady Bug
8. Without You
9. Nomad [Alternate Version]
10. That's Alright [Bass]
11. Garbo [Bass]
12. Sorcerer [Bass/Vocals/Drums]
13. Cathouse Blues [Bass]
14. Goldfish & the Ladybug [Bass]

The quality of your disk is really sweet, thank you for posting!

I second this query.

I've always like the piano demo best, and wished there were a master-quality (hell, even simply better quality) recording circulating.

You're welcome! I really like it, especially Sorcerer, with Lindsey harmonising on the chorus. Your discs sound great. Is the quality any better than the ones I posted?
