Great Rhiannon! But how do you know it was Aug. 29? ChiliD & his friend taped that, & he can't remember which night of a multinight stand at the Forum it was.

Put in the 3 letters it asks for at the top... Scroll down and let it count down the 40 seconds or so. and then click on the "free download" button when that's done - and the download should initiate.

I do like the Dance version. It's sober, elegant, I like the arrangemens.
Of cour the 70s or 80s perormances are far more intense, energic. I like the Mirager the LIVE versions.. they sound cool and Stevie gives everyting toer public.

To be honest, i don't like Rhainnon at all.
The song sucks.
Stevie wrote a bunch of good (and even brilliant) songs, but this is not one of them.
Sorry,....

Yes, in some ways it doesn't hold up to 'Affairs of The Heart'.

Michelle I think that was feedback from the amps. That happened a lot in the 70's. Nowadays with our high effing tech we don't have to hear that anymore.

I have to say that I completely agree with that, David. I don't like that "still cry out/don't leave me" thing she does these days, but some people like it....just a different personal tastes. I really miss Rhiannon the way she performed it back in the day. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who feels that way. I personally never cared for the style she performed it in for her solo performances either. The FM performances are the only ones for me. I also like the Rhiannon in the Mirage video, but that is an acquired taste that most people would not share with me. I hated it at first, but it has grown on me. She looks really rough, and her voice is shot, but after she twirls back onto the stage, she comes to life with some really dramatic stuff, like "Baby, you don't change, and I don't change, and you don't change....Rhiannon". Riveting! And just Lindsey's guitar work alone in that one makes it worth loving.

I also like the Midnight Special, Mobile AL, the 78' video posted in this thread, and the version that trotter posted is superb. But one of my all time favorites is from early in the While Album era...a true moment in history. It's almost identical to the audio version that Michelle posted. They were new and slightly unpolished...not visually perfected yet, and there was bad mic feedback. But the difference in this one and all other versions I have ever heard is Lindsey's undulating guitar work that starts at about 4:37 minutes. I've never heard him do it quite that way in any other version. I wish he had kept it going longer and continued to build on it...simply mesmerizing. She totally expends herself toward the end. What a gift she had. Here it is:

I think my favorite will always be the one from the Live album. I also really love the Buckingham Nicks bootleg version where she goes "don't play it too fast". LOL! I just recently got the book Triad (Amazon, for one dollar, can you believe it?) and am reading it now. Hard to imagine this little book was the start of a huge phenomenon.

oh yes. is that largo? landover? I can't keep them straight. I love this video/audio and the 4:37 mark too. not only is lindsey working that guitar, but stevie's working that chiffon like no other.

i always call this the "orgasm rhiannon" because when she starts at the end, that's what she looks like. it's a little more tame than say, rosebud, but it is so sensual and devine. love it.

and as people were saying about the "don't leave me noooooooowww" i don't like or dislike it, but i don't want her to remove the "weeeellll i don't think you do!" that she's added in the more recent rhiannons.

I wish I knew which performance this was from. I've always wondered. Hopefully someone that knows will tell us. Yes, Stevie is definitely working that more simple, less stylish chiffon (less than what she wore later). It's so charming to see her turn even that into magic.

Exactly. Sensual and divine is a good description. I think that is exactly the reason it's my favorite. It has an entrancing effect when it slows down it's pace. It makes me want to go into a meditative state, like chill out music. Then it slowly builds again into an explosion.

Some of her performances now are really great and have their own appeal. I certainly can't fault her for any of them. I think it's just a matter of individual preferences. I find The Dance to be very enjoyable, but if I had my choice, I'd prefer the old Rhiannon.

i'm pretty sure it's largo. that's what it says on youtube, anyway. and I was thinking it was between largo/landover anyway. and yes, exactly.

oh, nothing will ever take the place of the old style rhiannon. mama was magnificent at soundstage, but rhiannon from back in the day was something to see.

Yes, I've heard that Buckingham Nicks version. It's uniquely different. It's funny that after she says "don't play it too fast", they played it really fast anyway. I think that was typical of the BN versions....she sung them with a different rhythm in the words too. But I think the BN versions had much less of a mystical feel, which is what I love most about Rhiannon. Maybe not the best song she's ever written (although that's always a matter of personal taste), but I love that mystical place it takes me to.

How great that you found the book. Let us know what you think of it after you read it!
