Request for "Docklands" demos/master mixes

I was wondering if anyone has a good quality copy (possibly master mix) of the "Docklands" version that featured a more restrained chorus - almost ballad-like? I remember hearing a demo version of this that sounded as if it may have been recorded during sessions for The Other Side Of The Mirror but I could be wrong about the time period. Whilst I've never been a big fan of the song, this particular version makes me realise why Stevie was originally interested in recording a cover of it. Is anyone able to help?

Thanks Vivfox! The master mix version you have posted is certainly superior to the released version but this is not the one I remember. The one I'm looking for literally slows down when the chorus comes in and the girls sing prominently at this point. Stevie's lead vocal doesn't have the hard edges that the album version has. Do you know of this mix?

It isn't a "mix." It's a demo. I call it the "whistling" demo because someone's whistling on it. I'm really keen on it. The vocal harmonies on the chorus are much richer on it than they are on the album cut. A lustrous synth patch underlies the chorus vocals.

David, do you think this version could have been put down during the sessions for The Other Side Of The Mirror? Apart from sounding like that album, I'm wondering if the "mirror I'm looking through" line might have captivated Stevie's interest at the time. I'm also curious about how she came upon the track in the first place - one of the writers, Betsy Cook, had been produced by Trevor Horn, who in turn had been working with Rupert Hine so I'm wondering if he might have brought the song to Stevie's attention? I'm getting away with myself I know, but I am curious...

Hi Phil, you bring up a lot of interesting questions about the back-story surrounding the curiousity that is the song Docklands. It's an underdog song that doesn't rank amongst her strongest material, but I do like it. It's very surprising that she included it in her set list for the Street Angel tour, instead of other seemingly stronger self-penned album tracks.

What was it that attracted her to this song??The lyrics, while in the vein of Stevie's style (except for the laundry mat reference), are so bland and pedestrian. This is also the case with most other songs she's done from other (unknown/less known) writers.

Hope to visit your beautiful country in my lifetime. I have friends here who go there as often as they can -- they consider it their second home.
