Default Some Chick's wild imagination...

Downloaded music theory - AJS (5)09Nov07
Imagine with me for a second…

You are driving down the road during the summer with the window rolled down. You are rocking out to some of your favorite tunes with the music volume a tad over what it should be. Suddenly you are pulled over by a cop for whatever reason.

“Sir/Ma’am, do you know why I pulled you over?” The cop says.

“No officer. Was I driving too fast? Was I tailgatting?” You reply.

“No, no none of those actually. No I’m afraid I pulled you over because you are listening to an illegally downloaded copy of Fleetwood Mac's ‘Sara’.” The cop smirks at you.

“Gosh really? I had no idea…you see I just plugged in my ipod here…”

“May I see that?”

You hand over your ipod with a quizzing look. “Here you are officer..”

“Just as I thought sir/ma’am. All these songs have been illegally downloaded. I’m afraid I’m going to have to impound your ipod, and take you down to the station. Better call your family, you’ll be awhile.”

Anyone feel the music industry has too much power? This event could play out in a future near you.

Jokes aside, it seems that over the past even 10 years it’s hard to keep track of where I picked up any particular song or album. If someone actually did pull me over and ask for proof that I purchased any of it, I would be hard pressed to come with any sort of reciept. It makes me feel like perhaps the only music I want to listen to is that which is “free” for now on the radio. And even then I don’t drive often….don’t have time at home…Maybe it’s just too much of a hassle being concerned about making sure I’m not listening to music illegally.

Woe-filled be the day when musically artists are on the street begging for money and sueing me for enjoying their music without the rights to actually overhear it.

“All rise. This is case #92346 Strom versus Starving artist one.”
