Thrown Down Single Mix

I said in the Stevie board that I'd post this, so here I am.

I hope all of you enjoy this as much as I do. It is easily my favorite version of this song, including the Say You Will cut, and the two demos that Stevie did for TISL.

This was never officially released- it's not the "single mix".

I also must be the only one to find it bland and boring, highly preferring the album version (probably my favorite song on SYW)

I like the album version also, but I think the DVD audio version is better.

I just wrote what I found on the site I got it from

The SYW one is just as good, IMO, but I prefer the vocals on this version.

I think the Stevie demo for TSIL is the most boring. it has no oomph.
Idk, everyone is entitled to thier opinions.

How different is the DVD audio version? Is it mixed differently or is it just the higher resolution audio that makes it sound better?

It's not a huge difference. It's the background vocals during the chorus. It's like a call and answer. Stevie sings: "Thrown down" then background singers and Lindsey repeat "Thrown down" Stevie: "Like a baracade" bacground singers repeat "Like a baracade". Then after "That he could be good for her" the background singers sing "Thrown down". It's just a small difference, but I really like it. Maybe someone can post an mp3 of it. I don't think I have one, but I'll check.

I thought it had come out a couple of years ago that the "Wall Of Sound" version of Thrown Down was actually a Stevie Trouble In Shangri La track? Even if it wasn't made official by someone in the know (it seems it was though?) all the clues are there. First of all Stevie's "girls" (Lori and Sharon) are very prominent all through the song. Second, the final verse of the song, the "shaking the faith" verse, is missing. This shows that the Wall Of Sound version is very early, very close to the original, which was written during The Dance Tour. I suspect she added the "shaking the faith" verse while recording Say You Will. Third, even in the very early early days of Stevie's arrival during the Destiny Rules documentary, a more stripped down, bare version of Thrown Down similar to the end product that ended up on the album, is played. The Wall Of Sound version is just so unlike everything else on Say You Will too. It seems Lindsey was going for more stripped down, bare arrangements for all the songs on Say You Will. The Wall of Sound is just way overproduced for anything he has put into Fleetwood Mac in decades. I truly think this is one of those songs that Stevie talked about taking to completion, then yanking from Trouble In Shangri La at the last minute because she felt they were Fleetwood Mac songs. I will ALWAYS love this version of Thrown Down though... it's probably one of my fav Stevie songs ever. I'm so glad this was posted, because I haven't heard this version since my old computer died about 2 years ago. I wish this song and My Heart had seen the light of day!

I like this "single mix" a lot, especially the blending of Stevie's and Lindsey's voices. She does sound really good on this.

Interesting thought: those backup singers towards the end...That strikes me as a part Chris would have sung had she been around.

sounds like lindsey singing that to me... but i do agree, that has christine written all over it. it begs for her voice there, really.
