yikes.

i don't think he "did" anything to glam ... velvet goldmine was great.

btw, i think the word you're looking for is "awful" although "offal" in that context is pretty funny.

Cate blanchett by a mile. She's my favourite actress so got to say that. She's going to win the Oscar next year for the Golden Age - lay your bets now -don't say i didn't give you the heads up early!

And she's not only Australian but also only 35 - does that count as middle aged now????

I like Cate as well, even if she has a tendency to take herself too seriously. But I just think this movie is sounding more and more like a disaster. Todd Haynes can run the gambit between brilliance and utter crapola; there's nothing middling about him.

I suppose 35 (or so she claims to be) is a bit shy of middle age... but it's definitely around the corner from it. I'm a few years older and I consider myself firmly middle aged. I have never understood why people in their late 40s and 50s consider themselves "middle aged." I mean, since when did people begin to assume we were all going to live to be 100?

Cate Blanchett by far and then Christian Bale. The trailer is quite impressive, and I've always liked Todd Haynes, even in his most baroque moments there's always something good.

Richard Gere looks like Rick Vito with a beard.

Well, I think Adam Sandler looks more like Bob Dylan than any of those actors, for sure. I just find it fascinating that not one of the actors Haynes casts is Jewish. Though that's not the only reason Adam Sandler would be great in the role (with a different director).

I intentionally used the word "offal." That's what Todd Haynes is to me, and his movies. Offal.

The video of her in the film that was leaked today was...interesting. She plays him well but I don't think his speaking voice was ever that high.
I think Richard Gere and Heath Ledger look the most promising to me at this point.

Really? I don't think much of Sandler as an actor, to be honest. I mean - he has progressed a bit. Films like Punch Drunk Love show that, but it's just hard for me to take him seriously.

Hmmm, can't picture Adam Sandler playing Dylan other than in a skit, but I guess if Cate can play him, then why not?

More on Cate playing Dylan, plus a clip, here:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1773

I thought this was interesting: "I'm Not There is the first biographical feature to win the approval of Dylan."

Also there was this from producer Harvey Weinstein in the New York Times recently:

He said he also planned to position Ms. Blanchett, who plays Mr. Dylan during his “Blonde on Blonde” phase, for an Oscar. (Mr. Bale corresponds to “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan,” Mr. Ledger to “John Wesley Harding.”)

“I may be jumping the gun,” Mr. Weinstein said, “but if Cate Blanchett doesn’t get nominated, I’ll shoot myself.”

THIS is why Adam Sandler should be in this movie. I couldn't focus on anything but how much he looks like Dylan when I saw the trailer for Reign on Me.
